I agree switching between more than one retainer is a pain and we should be sent back to the initial choice of which retainer to access, but increasing the retainer's inventory is actually a worse solution.
A better option would be 'Transfer Item to <Retainer Name>' in the drop-down menu while accessing a retainer's inventory so the retainer can ship the item to the other one for storage.
