BLM LB on gamepad?

I was in Ifrit today with a party, and i was the BLM designated to launch LB. Normally I keep this on a hotbar (not cross hotbar) and when needed I will click it, put the mouse on-screen where I want it to go, and then click again and do the LB.

On the gamepad I was having trouble. I can click the ability fine with my mouse, but I have to aim with the analog sticks. That's fine. But when I go to hit the "execute" button on the gamepad after aiming my AoE circle, nothing happens. It kept flashing a "target not in range" message on the screen, even though I had a giant red circle in front of me and it was a valid placement.

Needless to say my party was very mad at me, and I didn't have anything else I could do but sit there and take the verbal abuse for not using LB due to the controller settings. Is this a known bug? Or am I not doing something right? I am using the "x" button (A button on logitec controller) and it works for every other ability.

You have to make sure you release the LB/RB buttons (crossbar selection buttons) if you are using the cross bar, and just hit "confirm" by itself, otherwise its trying to use your cross bar abilities.

oh, that's what is happening. Makes sense. Guess I just need more practice with this controller.

It happens with all targeted abilities that bring up a circle like Archer's Ring of Fire, Arcanist's Shadowflare, Scholar's Sacred Soil, quest "bombs", SCH/SMN's Place command for pets, as well as Mage LB. Its because the reticule expects a conformation, but the crossbar selection buttons remap the confirmation button to a "use this skill" button.

^ That's what happened. Happens to me all the time with ring of fire. I don't hardly ever use it anymore because it takes too long to position with a controller. They need to change these types of attacks to automatically be centered on your target and then you can reposition it from there and confirm. As it is now it starts as far away as possible for some reason.

I'd suggest switching your hotbar control to "Hold" instead of "Toggle" or "Mixed". Best fool proof setting for DoW/DoM.
Toggle is only really nice for fishing and crafting.

It only need to be changed that the right analog stick move only the circle without the camera, like it is with the mouse.

For now, the target position is fixed on the screen and you need to place it with moving around the camera.
