Level 42 Fish:
"Loyal Pleco" should have been "Royal Pleco". JP text is ロイヤル
You can also infer the translation error from the description text.

Umm. . . the description text lends itself more to "loyal" than "royal." Royalty does not tend to gather at the legs of others. A loyal pet might, though. . .
Mmm, guess the JP description is entirely different then.
Maybe, I can't actually read Japanese. Best I can do is decipher kanji.
The letter L is not present in the Japanese written language.
While they can pronounce it, this is the only way to spell it ロro イi ヤya ルru.
I think they'd spell Royal as ロヤル (royaru) or ロ-ヤル (Rooyaru). But my knowledge of the Japanese language doesn't stretch much further than what I have learned from reading manga, watching anime and the words and sentences I have picked up from my various vacations to Japan.

You can just google "ロイヤル" and look at all the website URLs. None of them is "Loyal". All have "Royal" in them.
While it is not wrong to translate the katagana to "Loyal", it is just not a common result.
Anyway, the JP description says it got the name because it is associated with the Uldahn royal family. Not too sure about the NA description.
-> Might just be a localization team thing.
Interesting, "Blind Manta" has a similar problem.
It is called "Fly Manta" in JP and the description says it is flat in shape with special aether wings that it uses to fly.
No idea how it got translated to using echo location to bounce off cliff walls...
Localisation is a tricky beast. Sometimes a direct translation will not achieve what it is you're trying to do with a piece of text. Sometimes there are cultural reasons why references or descriptions simply don't work as intended. This may be one of those cases.
It follows that some initiative/discretion is used in localisation beyond simply translating. My understanding is that such deviations often have to be signed off on, and provided they don't cause other problems or contradict other information, they can be as liberal as needed with such circumstances.
If you read the extended fishing log for Loyal Pleco, which is is the Fish Guide (most of the fish have extra information added, it's nifty!) they actually make reference to the second "Royal Pleco" name, in the English version anyways. Which is why I love the Localisation team and their text <3
That I agree. Except when the item name itself changes, sometimes people go ??? when trying to understand what I am referring to.
Not an item name but I remember using "Guild Order" and no one had a clue. It is called Guildhest in English version.
