    Every time I see someone complain about SE's customer support, it's usually regarding emails or phone calls.
    Personally I've always used their online chat support, ever since the early days of FFXI, and always had my issues resolved within minutes of ending the call. (including a very recent call which I've made for a friend to combine his Collector's Edition account with a regular account, which was against their standard policy)

    My opinion on why it's better:
    1- Phone support staff are constantly subjected to angry yells by self-important/entitled people who give them a hard time, chat support aren't. So there's a different in morale and willingness to go the extra mile to help you out.
    2- You won't be charged for waiting an ungodly amount of time on hold.
    3- The queue seems to go by pretty fast.
    4- You can leave the chat window alt-tabbed and it'll sound a notice when ready.
    5- You can upload relevant screenshots/documents in the chat window.
    6- When/if you request a supervisor for a non-standard issue, they can easily read the log instead of having to go through the details again with them.

    One annoying thing that SE did change, however, is that they made online chat support annoying to access. Most categories that you browse through in the help section will only link you to email support.
    Easy way around it is selecting "Account/billing > Information Change" and going to chat support from there. Doesn't matter if it's the wrong category, just type out your issue in the text box before you start.

    I didn't even know there was a one time Recovery option

    Where I'm lost at that if you so the vehemently despise being a female character (me to on MMO but like it on Single games) why all the way to 50. I would think after level 20 one would had just started over early.

    Not sure what to say that hasn't already been said. Personally I think you are:

    1.) Overreacting a little here.

    Threatening to delete your character just because they don't give it to you right now? I can fully agree with you that choosing the wrong gender can make you want to avoid playing a character. I was about to delete my alt and restart over because I wasn't happy with his name. However that was due to some server error issues back at launch that made my changes fail to save server-side. Fortunately they gave me a second chance to rename so it's resolved. But threatening to quit the game and delete your character unless they meet your demands right now comes off as a little childish. Sorry but it is.

    2.) Not telling the full truth.

    Something feels off about your story. Obviously you KNEW you used your Fantasia, the only way (Unless SE lied on this.) to change your appearance/gender with the vial is to unequip all armor and then log out of the character. Not saying you might have unknowingly hit the recreate on your character but even then something should have alerted you something was off. Using a Fantasia only gives you access to change specific things, had you been creating a new character it would have prompted you to choose a name and profession. It would have even shown a different character, not the character you had before the change. In fact I'm pretty certain it displays the race/gender select screen first. In order to have changed your gender using the Fantasia you'd have to choose the option from the list first.

    I feel you used your Fantasia, decided to goof around with different appearances. You found one that looked good and saved it as a template. Unfortunately you without realizing, hit the confirm button at the end and it permanently saved your change. I don't know how much else is accurate about your story but I'm certain you likely came here looking for sympathy and to rage, changing the story to favor your side.

    In any rate, whether or not this is true going to the General Discussion board and posting these demands isn't going to get you anywhere except ridiculed as it has. Instead, I suggest directly contacting SE via other means or posting something in the help forums here in the correct section. General Discussion isn't the place for it. Wish you luck in your endeavors.

    This. Whether people find this request "unreasonable" or not, it's already been approved by a GM. The issue is being promised something by SE and not getting it.

    Now, deleting your char and starting from scratch IS a bit extreme. But if the OP is willing to do that instead of waiting for another official response, it's their right.

    Only if you are actually delivering a service to the customers.

    You know, I totally agree with you that the original post in this thread is ridiculous. I am 100% with you on that.
    But nevertheless, Square Enix does expect us, their customers, to pay a premium fee. So it is justified to expect a premium customer service in return, especially since the game is not in a finished state yet (even the fact that this problem exists and the procedure for changing your appearance requires some kind of worrkaround on the customer's side is a good example for this...). And it does not matter if customer service in Japan is generally bad because the companies have a "eat or die" mentality there; since Square Enix does not hesitate to sell their product on location in countries like the U.S., Gerrmany, France, or even Switzerland, they should really work on rethinking their customer care strategies and deliver a service which matches the average level in the countries they target. Not doing so would be a case for a risk assessment - but well, history shows pretty well that SE is not very good in assessing risks before it's too late.

    yeah I was trying to costume out for my male character after I fudged up.
    This is is one of the most blatant made up excuses I've seen for "accidentally" using a Fantasia potion thus far. Lettucebesrs for a moment, you know you just used it and aren't happy with the changes you made. You know it, I know it, everyone knows it. Just be honest because you aren't fooling anyone lol. You do realize you were given a free fantasia potion as a luxury item right? You aren't really entitled to anything so be thankful they even gave you one. Anywho they'll probably allow for an item restore for one item if you just be patient, it won't happen overnight.
