Blame it on no Weatherman

So i am doing the level 40 fishing job quest. I need to catch 5 raincallers and bring them to Sybell. These are found in Gridiana when its raining, and only when its raining. So I searched online and found somewhat of a timeline stating that the weather tends to change every 8 hours (in game time). While I dont mind standing here waiting for the rain to fall, I was curious if #1- is there a forecaster man like in XI that can hint to me if its going to rain soon and #2 - does the weather truly change every 8 hours (in game time.) I honestly never took notice to it because I never really needed to rely on the weather to achieve anything in game......yet. I searched the threads and found on page 7 that someone had asked about the forecast but no one gave a reply. So I am bringing it back to life to see if any new information has been said or hinted to this!

Welp friends. Spent 3 in game days crafting right next to Jadeite Flood and not even a rain drop! Maybe the 8 hours signifies the times of the day (midnight, early morning, mid day, evening ) The weather hasnt changed much. Bright mornings, overcast mid day and clear nights. /sadface Guess I'll just keep crafting. I'm level 25 CRP atm, gunna be level 50 by the time i get rain! haha If there was ever a theory on weather changes, i think i can say there really isnt any pattern!

Hmm I got lucky and managed to grab them during snowfall(apparently it classifies that as rain) in new gridania next to the adventurers guild hehe.

Unfortunately it seems random as far as I can tell. The first time I was waiting for ages. When I was explaining it to someone else it started raining immediately. Also don't look for the actual rain drops (I usually don't see them) but the weather indicator on the mini-map.

Really!?!? If i knew that i would have hurried and leveled it during the winter festivites!! haha

I watched the map and not for the actual rain graphic. Sometimes I swore the map said it was cloudy and looked like it had sprinkles on it so I tried fishing during it. Didn't get any raincallers. After 6 in game days I did end up having rainfall around 8pm Eorzea time. I watched the clock and it actually lasted for 8 hours. So maybe there is some truth to a pattern lasting 8 hours in game time. But the weather itself is just completely random. I got fooled a few times because it was soooo overcast I really thought rain was going to come pouring down! But on that note, SE please add forecasters in the future. Especially if they are going to incorporate elemental influences on jobs and/or DoL/DoH's.

Just wait till you start fishing for two star fish. There are a LOT of weather dependent fish out there.

Having fished up every fish in the game and meticulously watched the weather for many a fun-filled hour, I can tell you with 100% certainty that weather does rotate on an 8-hour cycle - 12am to 8am to 4pm to 12am. Now, what weather you get when it changes is completely random within the possible weather patterns for that area, and sometimes it just chooses the same weather it was before, so you don't see any change.

Rain is really common in Gridania; if you haven't found any yet, it's just a matter of bad luck. My recommendation is to log off in Gridania whenever you finish playing, and if it's raining when you log in, fish, and if not, just go do something else and forget about fishing for a while. The rain will come eventually!

Every time I ever needed to go to Gridania it was always raining. So yes it is a common thing, except when i actually needed it to rain. I ended up waiting 6 game days. I probably just missed the rainfall when I started the quest in all honesty. And ever since i completed the quest i swear its been raining more frequently lol Oh well. Just takes patience, good timing and sometimes luck!
