Pretty much this. This is a result of FFXIV's horrible dungeon and boss design, not the players. If the developers design game mechanics (there are way, way, WAAAAAYYYY too many instant-kill situations at max level) that punishes not knowing the fights, players are going to develop a matching mindset.

Which is what these " I WANT TO LEARN TEH FIGHT!!" players are doing.
Or they are passing on their knowledge gained from experience or the explanations they got when they were new.

I can explain Ultima hm, and watched 30 seconds of a vid before going in. It's not hard to type and give a decent explanation, and it doesn't take 10 minutes either.

And I hardly call giving an explanation to someone work.

This is a different generation of MMO gamers, they're the types that will hop from an MMO to the next in a heart beat. It's not like FFXI era where people would teach a new healer or tank or DD the fight no problem, or even as far back as UO. This is the time where people's time is so "precious" everything has to be handed to them and nothing can take "an hour or more or it's too long."

Teaching someone shouldn't be considered a waste of time, but at times..people who know nothing tend to queue for fights above their caliber the second they get the chance to.

Lol people that tell me they've watched a video but never done the encounter is the same telling me they don't know a damn thing. From my experience, videos are worthless as those same people get hit by the mechanics they supposedly "prepared" for many times until they actually get experience in and get used to the timing/patterns. Video does nothing more than give a player a little confidence, experience is what you actually need. Simply telling someone what to look out for, or who to follow when needed is about the equivalent as watching a video but not "spoiling" the fun of a new encounter, and some people don't actually want to so I'll never understand these "did you even watch the video" people, because it's damn silly.

you'll understand when u start doing the highest end game instances. explanation alone isnt enough. some of the mechanics are pretty complex

I agree with the premise, but when it comes to the HM and EM primals or Ultima Weapon redux, you might as well just look up some pointers. You're not going to spoil yourself anything that way, story-wise, they're still pretty tricky even if you have a general idea of what's going to happen. Which is only a beefed up version of the easier versions you've done. You will still need to build some routine and practice, and have a good group you can rely on.

In terms of the story and all the pre-endgame content, I think it's ridiculous how people expect newbies to look everything up. For one, they're not that hard, for another, it'll only spoil bits of the story and the learning experiences that are involved in figuring them out.

My final point is that just knowing the fight is nothing after a certain point. Titan HM is a good example of practice making perfect. Just knowing the general order of phases and events in it will not help you win it easily unless you're being carried.

If you want to watch the videos and have a greater overall understanding of the fights and stuff then go for it, watch the videos and have a better chance of succeeding. I don't believe that people should be penalized for not watching them and that's a general rule of thumb for me.

I never watched any Ultima Ballad videos and managed to do just fine there, same with other dungeons and other primals and stuff. The videos are a tool for personal use to better your overall ability to recognize what is coming in the fight and how to deal with it. If you don't want to use them, so be it.

Depends on the individual, some players need every little step explained to them.

    Garuda
    Eye of the storm
    Eruptions
    Ifrit and plumes
    3 sets of bombs
    lasers
If tank switch on 3 stacks
    etc

You have to do it in a way so it doesn't overload their brains while trying to explain enough to where they won't be a dead weight. But Ultima is a forgiving fight unlike the high level primals.

It comes down to my success rate of getting out of the early phases with new players .0001 percent while I may not win with the group that knows the fight but at least I get good attempts in.

There is a lot of this stuff going around and i think it hurts the game more than helps it. It makes a lot of people not feel very welcomed. I watched a video for Titan HM, but that seems to be a fight you need to learn first hand as a caster. I did a few attempts @ Titan HM for my BLM relic and it didn't seem to help. I was even told that i should farm garuda for a weapon before doing the titan fight again.... So let me get this straight... I need to farm Garuda HM for god knows how long to get a weapon, just so i can beat 1 fight and then get my relic? Now i can see if i had some level 42 weapon. But this fight is set for i57 and i'm i70 with an i70 HQ Market board weapon. And i need a stronger weapon? I think it's these so called "watch a video" people that just want to get carried through content.
