And there was this other thing called being help full which really set you apart from other people who were generally referred to as being selfish. That being said if you're of the selfish I have no time for this mindset maybe single player is a better option for you or even an "Aint Nobody Got Time for That" server transfer option could be added in the future.

As for me I am going to continue helping the players in the game I love and try my hardest to strengthen the community.

I help people all the time.

...people on my own server, who I plan/hope to play with again in the future. Random duty finder cross-server guy #8764764 doesn't matter to me at all.

As for wasting time, of course games are meant to waste time, but that doesn't mean that it isn't rude to turn something that takes 15 minutes into something that takes an hour because you choose to be selfishly ignorant of fight mechanics. Especially when it would take you 5 minutes to watch a video/read a breakdown of the fight.

By virtue of being a hobby/entertainment, video games are (should be) the lowest on the priority list for most people, which means they have limited time in which to do things. If I have an hour to do CT + wait in queue, and get stuck in a group with someone who refuses to understand mechanics beforehand and keeps causing wipes, it is perfectly within my right to be upset that 1 selfish individual is making my goal for the hour undoable.

That's the flaw with themepark MMORPGs. Leveling is fast, gearing up is fast, so something has to hold you back... that is wasting an incredible amount of time "learning the fight".

I agree. It takes one or two lines of text to explain your role, the rest is experience.

I always warn people when I am doing a dungeon or something for the first time that this is my first time.

As for when new players join something I have already done, I am never going to judge or criticize them for being new. I'm patient. I'm happy to help. I think it's people who are not willing to help new people should see the game as a community and be willing to help.

if ur going at instances blind and failing, then expect to be verbally abused. i run trials for hours on end with players who dont know what the hell they're supposed to do. its so annoying when run it more than 10 times and the same thing happens.

The OP must be very new to online RPGs. Here's what I use to describe FFXI/FFXIV to others, it's not a video game, you live in there and spend a ton of hours per week in there, it's not like mario or halo where you play for a short while and bam, you're done with the game. Online RPGs don't end and every mistake you make stays with you and only a fool starts over once they start playing.

OP, you may be using a game/PC system, a TV/Monitor and a controller/Keyboard, but you aren't playing a video game, you are living in an online world. Once you understand the difference, then you'll understand why approaching this game like you would a mario game, is not the way to look at it, at all. You have to try and try hard, that means studying and learning strategies whether they be typed or shown in an online video. Don't like it, then a MMORPG isn't something you will enjoy too much cause thats what you have to do to play these types of games properly.

Just ask yourself, how often do I win a hard fight when someone in the party is new?
For me usually they die way too much for any good attempts and the party ends up disbanding.

Other mmos don't have this issue as much because the mechanics aren't unforgiving as FFXIV where it feels like you must know every single step in advance to succeed.

It's a complete waste of time when you are in a fight for an hour and yet never get out of the early phases.

    Depends on the explanations given.

Some people can watch a vid one thousand and one times and still fail miserably. A vid is just a glorified explanation of the same explanation that can be given in 2-3 minutes via chat. If those 2-3 minutes are crucial to completing the task, then the group failed before it started.

While I agree in general with the spirit of the OP, you chose bad analogies. Watching a video of super mario would be ONLY affecting you.

Here, you are affecting potentially up to 23 other people who have invested time and energy into learning the fights. By going there with no knowledge of them, you are wasting other peoples time. If you find a group willing to help you, wonderful! I would do so myself. But if you join a group of people that want to get the content done, sorry bud, but you ARE holding them back.

Random matching with strangers = why should I do anything for people who I'll never meet again = failures are a waste of time.

I think this is also part of the reason why everyone is so pumped up on the idea of time "wasted".

The other day in our own FC I saw someone ask another FC member to leave the content (not sure what they were doing, sounded like one of the primals) and "go learn the fight" by watching videos and such. I was in the middle of a dungeon myself (tanking) and by the time I finished it, the FC chat was dead silent and it just seemed better not to bring it up again.

Hmmm...I don't know. Perhaps people really need that positive reinforcement of accomplishing something for every hour they spent in an MMO.

Maybe what they really want is a game that "has other people around", not a game they play "with other people".

If someone is giving an explanation, then most likely he did the work of studying for the fight. If you go into fights needing a 5-10 minute explanation every time, then it's the same as watching a vid except you're making someone else do all the work. Which is what these " I WANT TO LEARN TEH FIGHT!!" players are doing.
