I think watching video before boss fights is OK.

Why? Lets imagine, inexperienced player joins the fight. Lets suppose, that he is silent about it, and fight just starts. If a player passed fight from first try, all is good, but I can't imagine how player can avoid for example aoe explosions in ifrit (when everybody should be under him, and rest of field explodes) or bombs on titan (it is not obvious that these rocky things are bombs and what to do with them) for first try.

So, first wipe is likely to occur. It's fine, things happen. Then player asks to explain fight (if not, other wipe likely to occur). So instead of listening that explanation words (and better - see some visual illustrations) on video he asks players to type all that explanations right now in chat. Why make people type these tactics, instead of watching something, that is made clearer and in more detail?

It's a different story when you're with a team. You have a responsibility. Wanting to experience content for yourself for single player is fine. You can go at your own pace. But the same cannot be said for team based gameplay.

If you're a hindrance to a team then you don't belong there. Unless all other team members are okay with it. The team comes first, not you. You have to act in what's best for the team.

Demanding another player do something because it suits you, is all this really is. no matter how many good points you do to defend it. you want a complete stranger to appease you because it would make your life easier. unfortunately as many have found out, that's not how the world works. we all have our own reasons for doing stuff. your options are simple, Do content with friends, or risk doing it with strangers. Pretty simple

Majority is what matters for the team. Demanding a player to do something because it benefits, not just you but all other members. Now if more than half the team were new then the shoe would be on the other foot.

Some of y'all need to go back to playing with Game Genies and reading the back of GamePro mags for cheat codes without paying for it.

I will watch videos and text guides online but i primarily Tank. for me having better insight for a fight doesn't ruin anything for me knowing how to tank the fight and key mechanics probably has the opposite affect. i wouldn't force people to watch a video guide but if i know the fight and new player expects me to tell them i will not do so, i will however let them look up a text based guide ect. ( there are more then video guides and i feel reading a text based guides do not in anyway ruin the experience)

Before i get people calling this and that 1 i cant explain the tactics better then a written guide on IGN for example so i dont bother.

That is also why we go for the simplest, easiest tactics all the time. Rush tactics. Skipping trash. Enrage tactics. To us, the game consists of just that coffer with the piece of shiny loot. Be damned if you make me move even an inch more than I absolutely have to, to get to open that coffer. Be damned if you waste my time! I wish all of you can be replaced by NPCs who bow to my every wish!

If you want to waste my time, you go back and play your single player games! Multi-player means doing your best to serve my interests!
I'm still unaccustomed to the selfish/rush-mentality of this game.
Very few people seem to have time to offer even a minute of advice.

I came from FFXI, and I'm used to a community where people help each other and want to improve together.
If someone was new we gave them a few tips. If we failed we tried again and offered more advice, until we succeeded - together. We wanted the whole team to win. Communication was important, (unlike XIV where people seem quiet and expectant that everyone knows everything).
In 8 years of playing don't remember ever being in a group where someone was kicked because they didn't know what they were doing - it was unheard of.
It was all about having fun together, not only with linkshells, but among strangers.. It wasn't all "ME! ME! ME! HURRY! YOU'RE WASTING MY TIME!" I never really worried about a reward because I was always enjoying myself.
I must say, I miss the camaraderie and team work of 'the good old days.'

I can't say I blame the selfish/rush-mentality on the players alone though. I believe that the game was designed in such a way that it was bound to happen.. If people have to do dungeons 10s or 100s of times to get the gear that they want, it's an environment that will breed impatience.
(Not to mention, the reason I hate dungeons..)

I find OP's comparison of a NES game and this MMO game amusing.
