Watching content before actually doing it?

The only reason I'm writing this is because I can't believe how some people expect others to play a game nowadays.

So you're new to the game, you've been playing games all your life and you can't wait to pop in ff online, get into some epic quests, fight big bad signature monsters from the series and have an awesome experience doing it. But wait, as a newcomer you're constantly told you should know the content before actually running it. Now you're thinking WTTTTF?? At least I am. Since when do players need video youtube strategy guides to go through a dungeon or defeat a boss or else other players leave or call you names?

Man, back in the day when we played Mario on the nes or something I don't remember us watching videos of when the next hole in the ground or monster will freaking pop up. People had a blast increasing their skills to beat hard games. Why ruin the surprise of the video game by having so many pro wannabes say we have to know content or discourage people who haven't run a dungeon. That's the whole point of a game, to have fun on the first runs! Not to watch someone else on youtube have a fun time explaining it.

Only advise I have for someone getting griped to the ground by a raging person who needs his leet loot more than anything in life, who hates that you're new to the dungeon is to shrug it off and keep going in the party and hope he rage quits all by himself. Don't let it get you down, and don't feel like you need to watch anything before playing it first hand, unless you choose to.

If people played an MMO like that it would be an endless chain of 7 people knowing what they are doing and 1 guy holding the group back and having to explain it to them. Eventually that 1 guy would know what he's doing and someone would leave and someone new would pop up. There will always be at least 1 person in a group in a day that doesn't know what they are doing. In fact it's more often that you have 6 people who know what they are doing and 2 completely new people and you never get a party with 8 people that know what they are doing.

As such, from the point of view of someone who knows what they are doing, they are being held back, and their time is being wasted.

However, I believe that to be context. If I join a duty finder, I expect to have new people, and I'm cool with it. But if I'm forming a BCB group and it clearly says "Experienced people only", you better be good enough to wing it from some youtube videos, if not I'll end up having to kick you to bring in someone else.

I feel new players should make an effort to form their own groups with more new people and learn it together, like the rest of us did before the videos were made, not get carried by 7 people who have it on farm.

This isn't a single player game, it's not mario. In mario you played by yourself.

I think learning a fight without a video is the way to go to, but I don't inconvenience random people and do it that way. I found a static that was as new as I was and we wiped 100's of times until we figured it out and cleared it. We even ended up with our own strats not in the videos. People run with us and their like "WTF, you do this so complicated", but it doesn't matter because complicated is just how we memorized it, and it works, so we keep doing it that way.

Now when 2.1 came out, I DF'ed stuff knowing nothing, but so was everyone else, there were no videos yet. But in the first week I had done everything except titan em and ifrit.

My main point is, people have the right to request experience from people. If you don't like it, don't run with them. If it's the only group in the party finder, QQ. Take the time to get experience on your own with like minded people. This is an Online Game, we all need to get along. Respect is the path to a good community, Even if it's one sided.

I blame it on the unforgiving mechanics and the rotations/phases style end game content.

Excellent points OP. I prefer to scout fights in advance but it doesn't mean I expect all players to do so. Play however makes you happy.

Do remember however this is a community game and that other players are relying on you, so in general it is at least common courtesy to let other players that you ate new and to give you a basic rundown of fight mechanics.

People expect too much out of other people. I always go into an instance expecting everyone to be idiots.

Sounds like you're picking the wrong types of people to play with.

Everyone has different goals in the game. What you need to do is figure out what you want from the game and then join a group of people that wants the same thing you do.

It sounds like you ran with a group that really didn't feel like spending all day wiping on a boss. It also sounds like you are perfectly fine with going through countless unneeded wipes just for the sake of figuring things out. What you need to do is find a group of people who also feel the same way you do which means you have 2 options:

    1. You join a cutting edge top of the charts guild who goes in to attempt bosses the day they are released or as soon as they can get to them. This way you fight bosses without guides even existing which means you will get to wipe for hours while figuring stuff out.

    2. Join a super casual social guild of people who just want to hang out and don't really care if they accomplish much in the game as long as they're having fun together. This way you will be wiping for hours but you will be doing it with people who don't care if they wipe a lot because you're doing it together so you're having a good time.

I really hope that after reading this post you will stop getting mad at other people for not playing the game the way you want them to play. And realize that everyone is enjoying the game their own way and there is nothing wrong with other people enjoying the game in different ways from you.
