I agree with the premise, but when it comes to the HM and EM primals or Ultima Weapon redux, you might as well just look up some pointers. You're not going to spoil yourself anything that way, story-wise, they're still pretty tricky even if you have a general idea of what's going to happen. Which is only a beefed up version of the easier versions you've done. You will still need to build some routine and practice, and have a good group you can rely on.

In terms of the story and all the pre-endgame content, I think it's ridiculous how people expect newbies to look everything up. For one, they're not that hard, for another, it'll only spoil bits of the story and the learning experiences that are involved in figuring them out.

My final point is that just knowing the fight is nothing after a certain point. Titan HM is a good example of practice making perfect. Just knowing the general order of phases and events in it will not help you win it easily unless you're being carried.

Edit- Ryios said it better than I did. So you can skip this text bubble. I should read more posts before giving up on the replies.

Think of it like this. This is a game. You play to enjoy it.

Now consider that being an MMO you are going to play with others. It is much more like a team sport. Your actions, performance, attitude and so on directly effect the rest of your group. So while you enjoy the game it isn't about you or any of them. It is about the group working to achieve the goal (kill the thing, usually efficiently and with few / 0 retries).

When people say 'this is only a game' or compare it to something single player they seem to forget how connected they are to the experience of those in the party with them. This isn't Mario. This isn't FF XIII.

None of this justifies people being dbags about experience. However being on the opposite extreme is no better.

I only watch videos after failing a few times.

But that being said. I normally don't need to watch a video before I get win. That being said I get why people don't want to waste there online time failing at something.
Sadly People just want it done so they can move onto the next thing.

    Commendations.
If I play dps I only give it out to other dps.
If I play tank I only give it out to healers.
If I play healer I only give it out to tank.

Only if they should be getting a commendation.

agree its saddening how much people want to impose their self-beliefs onto other players. This is not the only case. Regarding this there are good points on both sides why it is beneficial to watch and do stuff over others, however a player should never be bullied into playing the game how others want it to be played. If you want that then use the party finder and make that clear.

Personally i only like playing mmo games if they are fresh, so i can experience the content first hand, the experience feels totally different, like actually using your brain to work through instead of being spoon fed everything. Whats more horrifying is when you join a 'learning party' and people have these expectations, its not really fair for those that enjoy the game just to have fun, even if you are wiping, and having a blast because the you are taken for a treat with each new mechanics.

Personally when new progression content comes out i would love to go inside and not know anything about it, and try to figure it out and work through it with 7 others.

And I never really understand the 'wasting peoples time' arguments. If i join a dungeon im making a conscious decision that they may be players that dont know the dungeons as well, and some 'first timers', because nothing makes me special over them, i feel it would just be selfish of me to dictate that everyon should see a video, and know the fight even though ive done the dungeon 100 times. If i dont like that i can just join with friends/ls/fc people, join or make an experienced party.

A player at the end of the day is entitled to try to work the dungeon for themselves, and enjoy their game, which is in their right to do so. People simply want to exercise that aspect of the game. Its like calling someone an idiot or they are doing it wrong cause they choose to walk to the shops instead of using transport, or if someone chooses to not use a calculator while solving a math problem because they want that extra mental stretch.

At the end game boils down to having fun and people have different goals, if people want to blame others for their lost game time, or how others are wrecking the game for them, then that is pretty lame and irresponsible, cause that is determined by you not others. You dont like something the "leave duty" option is always there, i myself have used it many times, for whatever reason, did i leave cause people were horrible? No, for w/e reason whether we didnt share the same ambitions, or i didnt sync with them, or didnt enjoy the experience with them i left, bottom line i didnt want to play with them, where they at fault? no they played how they wanted to play, i played how i wanted to play.

    Remember these?

Back in my day, you were considered a cheater if you used one of these before beating the game or getting stuck on it first.

Point 2: Here's the model of what we're doing.
    Code:
    Square (runs the game)
    ^
    | [Money transfer!]
    |
    Players (play the game)
At no point do we pay each other money (which is honestly a silly way to measure time's value, but others are more pragmatic than me), so at no point do we owe each other anything. I am not "wasting your time," because you chose to spend your time playing a game with other people. You chose to exist in this world with everyone else. I am not required to have any amount of skill. There is no prerequisite to playing the game, other than paying Square for the opportunity to do so.
So why should you be any more respectful, if you don't owe anyone anything, either?

Yeah...I have read all these posts and it truly goes both ways and both sides have valid points. Here is the solution
    1. It takes all the fun out of a game if you already know how to do it before you do it so use the Party Finder and make a group of people that want to learn it together (not sure how many takers you will get though).
    2. If you don't know a fight and you are joining a team that is requesting the player have experience then that is being dishonest.
people have a right to request experience and get it.
    3. If it is Duty Finder ...then you get what you get.

There is a pretty long thread on this already but bottom line, play the game the way that suits you the best and don't allow some one to bully you into playing the game the way that they want you to, if it doesn't suit your tastes.. Until the TOS requires people to look at cheat vids before trying all content, you have every right to play without watching vids if you choose not to. They don't tell the people getting world firsts to watch vids that don't exist before they try it, because they are too busy waiting for them to post vids to get themselves through it.

Why ruin the surprise of the video game by having so many pro wannabes say we have to know content or discourage people who haven't run a dungeon. That's the whole point of a game, to have fun on the first runs! Not to watch someone else on youtube have a fun time explaining it.
    A) The technology didn't exist back then to easily watch a video or read up on the mechanics of a fight. You had to buy/send off for a magazine/video for that kind of thing.

    B) You aren't wasting 3/7/23 other peoples time by not knowing what to do in a single player game. By refusing to look up basic strategy and mechanics you are basically saying that your fun is more important than 3/7/23 other people's time, which is outright rude. If you want to figure it out yourself, then make a group dedicated to doing exactly that. Don't expect others who already have gone through that be willing to wipe because you don't understand something when you easily could.

Honestly this doesn't bother me much in 4mans, but in 8+ man content, you really should at least read about the mechanics so you know what to expect. Even doing that, you aren't likely to pull it off perfectly the first time, so you still get part of the fun of learning from mistakes.

Some of you are foaming at the mouth so bad to try and instill a philosophy of "its wizer to has watched vids furst" that you don't even see the op never said they were "trolling your farm parties". Go read what they said again.

Make a party finder that says, "please watch vid". Take the same advice you're giving to people who don't want to watch a vid first.

Nobody, and I mean nobody is saying watching a vid first doesn’t work better. It’s like a freakin instruction manual. Some people just don’t want/need manuals, that’s it.

And btw I just beat Ultima tonight, second try, watched about 30 seconds of Mr Happy’s vid, and did fine. It was because the people were cool and sacrificed three MINUTES of their time to explain it before I could even watch the vid.
