As far as I know Tanks and WHMs have emergency skills on long CDs that can save lives. SCH dont have anything like this. Something like an instant cast shield, shielding a person for 50% of max hp on a 5 min CD would be nice.

We have Lustrate... thats saved people in my party many a time.
"Your former glories and all the stories, dragged and washed with eager hands..but oh your city lies in dust my friend!"
That's what lustrate is for, and you get 3 of em at that if you want to
whaaaaat? lustrate, u know it?? its insta cast and recovers 25% of the maximum targets hp
I will add that it can be be stacked three times in a row in a single cooldown if necessary, and has a one minute effective recast because of aetherflow recast. This is pretty much what you are askingfor with a bit of added flexibility in that you don't have to use it all at once if you don't need and it's cool down is shorter than the other classes oh crap abilities.

If your Aetherflow is off CD, and you have all three charges, you potentially have 6 Lustrates available all at once. That's a pretty good "oh sh**" ability, in my opinion.
Provided you don't blow all of Eos's cooldowns at once, her Fey Illumination+Rouse+Whispering Dawn is an excellent party saver too.
Between benediction and lustrate, I believe lustrate to be the better oh shit ability of the two classes. I can't tell you how many times in a single fight my lustrate saves tanks when benediction can't. Benediction is a one off bring a tank back from the brink of death ability. Lustrate, on the other hand, can be just a normal heal or achieve practically the same purpose that benediction serves. Further more, i spread lustrate out between each tank. Now and then I run into situations where both tanks need healing and the whm's benediction is on cd. What I do in those situations is I lustrate each tank once, wait for the whm's cure 2 to hit a tank then lustrate the other tank. At that point each tank will be above 50% health and we can heal them normally.
Having played both WHM and SCH as my main ... I prefer Lustrate hands down over Benediction. Not only do you get 6 of them to spread out however you would like at the start of the fight but you get 3 more every minute. So so a 75% heal every minute vs 100% heal every 5 minutes that pulls ridiculous hate. Lustrate is one of my favorite abilities on my scholar as it is fantastic for the "oh shit moment" especially when you are moving and great for mana conservation throughout a fight.
While lustrate is probably one of the best CDs in the game, I don't think the OP is that dense to not know what lustrate is and how to use it, benefit of the doubt though of course.
A 50% or even 75% shield of maximum HP on a 5min CD would go great with the mechanics of SCH.
Edit: However, that'd give SCH a bit of an edge over WHM and they're pretty balanced with each other. WHM would need something to compensate along the lines of how lustrate works. Maybe something like a 200 potency instant cast heal with a 50 potency hot for 15 seconds.

We already have a shield that protects for ~50% hp depending on the target - Adloquium critical hits. Granted, it's not an emergency ability and is only guaranteed to shield for about 20% hp if used as planned mitigation, but with a 20% crit rate it ends up being active at high strength a decent amount over the course of a fight. Even with a modest ilevel of 78, my crit Adloquiums land for about 2300-2500 shield unbuffed.
