    NM Hunting Log

I miss the fun and excitement of finding and killing free roaming NMs. There are a lot of reasons why I miss that aspect of the game, however I guess the main one is I like the challenge of trying to solo them.

1.0 NMs weren't that challenging as say compared to the likes of FFXI NMs, but they were still fun to kill. I was wondering if we could get like a NM Hunting Log. Initiated in the same manner that we start leves. Solo battles where defeating one NM lets you challenge the next NM in the log.

Obviously I'd rather they just be put back into the world normally but I guess this is like a kind of compromise.

I made a Thread like this a few weeks ago. Not many people were for it.

It was to make The Hunting Log worthwhile for End Game purposes. Which would be like the Bounty System from FFXII.

Would be nice if it was a daily thing, that is to say, in addition to being a hunting log entry it could also be a daily wanted NM that you hunt. I just think if it was a static hunting log, you wouldn't have any reason to fight a NM once you've recorded a kill, but having a daily wanted target might provide an incentive to battle targets you've already defeated. It would be slightly more interesting than fighting X number of such and such, with perhaps a difficulty tier you can select from depending on the skill level you play at.

This is what I miss the most from FFXI. Hunting NM's. Those drops you coveted. The feeling you got when you saw Leaping Lizzy up on widescan hit your flee macro and managed to engage her. The joy of getting the drop, the disappointment of not getting it and the determination to keep trying. FFXI was all about replacing generic gear with rare gear, those level 7 leaping boots were worn on each character I could equip them on until a better replacement was available. I was proud of them.

We'll never see a system like this again because the casuals would complain it's not fair they weren't handed everything on a sliver platter like we have been since 2.0 came online. This game is too easy, too casual and it's losing it's appeal for a lot of people.

The hunting log in the beta had the wanted mobs that appear random while doing leves but people complained and they changed it to what it is now.

From a business standpoint, SE has to cater to as many players as possible in order to compete on today's market. The gaming market has evolved and the idea of waiting days/months for a small percentage drop from a monster that 100's of other players are vying for, is sadly no longer accepted by most players as fun anymore.

Something like this could be interesting, if it was tweaked slightly. Specifically, borrowing from the C'ieth Stone missions of FFXIII and the Bounty Hunts of FFXII, it could be something where you go to one of the Adventurer's Guilds, pick up the mission, go and meet the client, and then go hunt down the NM. Said NM would be spawned by interacting with an object or approaching a certain spot, like those purple smoky circles they already use for this. After winning and reporting back to the client, you'd be rewarded, and then after completing a tier of the Bounty Board, you could get an achievement with a title or additional reward.

Something like that would be really awesome, especially if they also made it so that every day one random bounty you've already completed would become available again for whatever reason, sorta like what DefendPopPunk was saying. Something like this I'm certain could appeal to both the casuals and the hardcores, since some of the upper tier bounties would probably require high item levels and people would need to know what they're doing to avoid a wipe.

Anyway, just my two cents on the matter, though I really hope SE does something like this in the future.

    I like this idea.

Maybe a hunt style board ala ff12 could be implemented as well, could attach the various new NM to exisiting FATEs that do not have a NM to get people out into the overworld and completing neglected FATEs.

A lot of NMs are in FATEs now, unfortunately.
