I really don't understand why people can be so vehemently against chat bubbles. Chat bubbles. It's not like folk are asking for content to be nerfed to the ground, or for certain classes to be buffed to ridiculous levels, or for an "I win" button or anything. This is freaking chat bubbles. Their presence on someone else's client does not affect you in the least.

Your right, i should stop trying to ask for it and stop trying to reason with people. The players of the game will be the players of the game, and that's it.
You should. You've said your part, you've had a discussion with other community members, and even had a rep respond to reiterate they aren't going to be adding a feature after a previously stated comment that they aren't going to implement it. What more do you want to add or are you going to continue to stand on the soap box of video game injustice? You aren't fighting some oppression here, you asked for a feature request, they said no. What is so hard to understand here?

The sarcasm went right over, didn't it?

But you're right, i'm not fighting oppression. I -am- however a paying customer for this game, and with that i have the ability to post my thoughts on this forum. At the end of the day, they can say they don't want it and they don't have to implement it; But i'll be damned if i'm not going to exercise my right as a consumer and attempt to give the company i am giving money to on a monthly basis my opinion on what i think would benefit the game.

You, in turn, have the right to support or denounce my request; But you're not going to silence it.

People like immersion. They break it. They're cartoony. It's simple.

I'm afraid i have to call you out on the whole immersion thing. No amount of immersion is going to stop people from remembering that you're a person sitting in a chair, holding a controller/mouse and clicking buttons while numbers fly around on the screen.

Don't get me wrong, i enjoy getting engrossed into games but i'm not about to ever forget that i'm playing a game through an interface. And really, how does it break your 'immersion' if the feature was released with the default being off and everyone who wanted it would toggle it on? Not a thing changed in your world.

As a roleplayer, I'm pretty big on the whole "immersion" thing, but I've gotta say... this is kind of a silly thing to get up in arms against. There are a million things in a video game that "break" immersion. Railing against something that you don't even have to use if implemented is ridiculous.

@Hvinire, please just make it an option

If it's a problem with PS3 capability, you -can- make it a PC only feature... you can make it spatial (they only popup within a certain distance of your periphery) & cap it (only so many on screen at a time; only so many characters in a bubble).

    1) easy to implement, 2) it's already in the game for NPC's you walk past, 3) it can be defaulted "OFF"

If the Devs were lazy then we wouldn't have any more content period and not be getting constant updates, fixes and other stuff.. nor would they have destroyed the entire 1.0 version of the game and rebuild it back up from almost scratch with a completely new engine... I'd rethink that "Devs are lazy" comment
Zitat Zitat von Tiggy Beitrag anzeigen
Devs can't do anything about a 512mb memory limit. Lazy or not there is no way to change that. You also don't have a single foot to stand on when calling them lazy. It's entirely subjective, and quite honestly, based off nothing at all. You have absolutely no idea how they work, how hard they work, how often they work, or what their work structure is like.
Ok I'll put /sarcasm or make it more clear that I'm just talking about the post I quoted next time. I'm sorry I incurred the wrath of the whiteknights.

but they're making a habit of ignoring the customer base (and their competition) and it will come back to bite them in the end
I wonder if people realize how short-sighted they are being? Ignoring the customer base? Because they denied the request of chat bubbles?!?

I guess there isn't a 100 page Quality of Life thread that has literally dozens of comments from the CMs about things that have been implemented since launch. Nope, I can't see how many HQ items I have on the main gathering screen now. Nahhhh, the names of the zones you are teleporting to don't show up right next to the town's name now instead of flipping back and forth between port/map. CT must also still show "In Progress" on the DF queue because of the incessant trolling (which was literally implemented solely due to forum backlash mere weeks after the raid was put into the game). The vanity system is definitely not being implemented in 2.2. Various emotes certainly weren't made to work while sitting/mounted.

    I could go on....but meh.

Like I said, I personally don't care. If chat bubbles cluttered too much, it's not above me to just toggle it off in a menu real quick. But we are talking QoL here, and IMO chat bubbles are not more important than the things they have already implemented, and are planning to implement. I, for one, am happy SE decided to take care of other things first.

People are also acting like Hvinire said 'it's never going to happen, end of story" All that was said, was 'not at this time'. I truly feel sorry for the some of the people that commented in this thread who are visually impaired in some way, and the chat screen is just too difficult to see all the time. I am actually color deficient, so you can imagine the struggle I had with Garuda HM trying to determine which one was green/red. They still haven't fixed that for me! After being over-geared it isn't a problem because the adds die fast and I can just target whichever one the rest of the party is targeting. But when I first was doing the fight in half-DL/half-AF, I had to depend on my friends in vchat to call out which add to target. Annoying much!!

But I accept I am in the minority. I dealt with it. I learned to adapt. I am not entitled to have SE change this for me because it is a hindrance. It literally only affects people in a similar situation as me. Same with chat bubbles. They may be nice to have, but they are just not a top priority on the 'to-do list'. Maybe they will re-visit this topic after they have cleared up some other things that have been requested more frequently with higher demand/positive responses? If the debate in this thread continues, maybe the post count will be enough for the developers to give it a second thought.

You gotta keep your head up!

Let's use terrible words: You are entitled to have Squee change things for you. You are paying for it. You not only bought it, but you are subscribing to it. All games should come with an option for color-deficient people because, seriously, why not? It doesn't affect any of the other people, since it would be an option. You toggle it off or on as you desire.
It's also a bit innacurate to compare chat bubbles with color modes because chat bubbles are already in game and they do not require a revision of the gameplay. A color mode would require a revision as far as that mod eis concerned, because some battles might use too many colors and you might need to manually tune them.
Chat bubbles, though? I'll repeat: they are already in game. The only thing missing is letting players have them and add a hard limit on how many chat bubbles can be on your screen, since you are all so worried about your screen being cluttered by evil bubbles filled with text.

I'm tired of people insisting that chat bubbles are this VERY hard and TIME CONSUMING to implement thing that CLUTTERS the screen, even though they are (I'll repeat) in the game already and a crapton of other MMOs have it and no one in them has ever complained about chat boxes cluttering their screen. Stop making up problems that are 'solved' by not having chat bubbles.

Addendum: I have just found out they are already toggeable, even. Do you know how I know? Because I walked to some of the NPCs who have chat bubbles and I hit the "Hide UI" button. And the chat bubbles dissapeared.
