Very conflicted new player needs a push in the right direction

im really conflicted, I normally play healers in MMOs, but conjurer just is way too slow for me in terms of just general gameplay, I tried other classes like the archer/pugalist/marauder and while i did enjoy them, i didnt exactly get to a high level before getting incredibly bored.

    1. out of the Arch/Pug/MRD, which is the easiest to level
    2. Why are there so few people in the low level zones? i know the game isnt exactly new anymore but it seems like i never see anyone doing fates in the starting zones, which really makes it hard to do them.
    3. does the battle system get faster/more exciting later on? i know ive barely passed the level 10 mark on any of my characters but it seems like i get bored way too fast with each one that i try. I psych myself up to give each one a shot but then that enthusiasm runs out very fast.

i would have written more stuff but 1000 characters isnt enough to fit in a single post apparently. (original post was 2166 characters lol)

You can type it all out, then cut the part that is over 1000, and paste it back in in an edit. Mrd (Warrior) will end up with the fastest queue times for dungeons and all that stuff cuz it's a tank job.

The game rushes you to lv50 pretty fast, so there aren't many low level folks around.

    At the end... combat is 1 2 3 1 2 3 dodge 1 2 dodge 3 1 2 3.... sometimes 4 5 6 7, but.... just spam and dodge, spam and dodge.

the extra text was just me ranting about how the 2.5 second GCD was stupid and i didnt like it. other than that i kept in what really mattered.

    1. MRD is probably the easiest to level, since once you unlock dungeons you'll get into them immediately.
    2. Nobody is in the lower level zones because most people don't bother leveling alt classes. Sad but true.
    3. The battle system doesn't get faster (PGL/MNK gets some skills to reduce GCD, but you can't get to the more-standard 1.5s even then). It does get a little less repetitive once you have a few more skills (but this takes quite a long time with some classes, like CNJ).

Also, you can edit posts to surpass the character limit.

    2. Nobody is in the lower level zones because you're on a Legacy server, and in 1.0 it was easy to powerlevel everything to 50, so that's what everyone did. Only new players ever needed to use the low-level zones anyway, and there aren't too many of those anymore.

well my first 2 days were spent experimenting with classes that i was reccomended.

atm i have a level 11 Conj, lvl 9 Mrd, lvl 6 pug, lvl 2 archer

guess ill stick with MRD, Tanking is my backup class in most MMOs.

If you like healing but want more to do, I'd recommend Arcanist -> Scholar. It's more interesting gameplay than Conjurer, and the only difference is that you can't queue as a healer until level 30.

Edit, and sorry, I forgot Gilgamesh isn't a legacy server. It just seems like one, LOL.

I disagree that there is 'no-one is in the low level zones' - I see lower level people in Middle La Noscea and the Central Shroud all the time, both new players and existing players levelling other classes.

It also depends on time of day - your server's 'quiet time' is naturally not going to have as many people playing (for my server this is after 1am to about 4pm my time) - players are either asleep or indisposed with real life (school/work/family commitments etc). Evening and weekends are naturally the busy periods you'll see most zones busy, even low level ones.

Give Arcanist a try, to eventually be Scholar/Summoner....that's right it is the only class that actually levels two jobs at the same time. I'm always a healer and have both Scholar and White Mage at level 50, and I really enjoy Scholar although I didn't enjoy Arcanist. So be patient and take your Arcanist to level 30, get your Conjurer to 15 as well or you won't be able to be Scholar, and you'll find that at level 30 the whole game opens up for you and the job of Scholar is fun to play.

I kind of want to dispel what someone said about the gameplay not getting faster at higher levels.

Your GCD can be decreased with skillspeed/spellspeed, but not by much. What DOES change is the amount of abilities that you get access to. This would include ones that are off of the GCD in addition to a wider variety of GCD abilities.

The latter portions of this game are very heavily focused on mechanics and dodging, being good at your class should be automatic by the time you are ready to tackle the end-game stuff like the Binding Coil of Bahamut and Extreme Mode Primals.

I will say getting to level 10 in any class is not indicative of what that the class will be like at higher levels. Are you leveling up via just murdering helpless small creatures, or are you questing/etc? FATEs are good way to level when there are others around, but the quests from the main scenario and your class quests make the lower levels more fun than just Bootshine>True Strike>Bootshine>True Strike.

The game will change when you get to level 15 and can start doing dungeons, you can level up very quickly (especially with your daily roulettes) in dungeons. If I had to make a "pro" or "life-hack" suggestion, I would say to use a tank or a healer as your first class to 50 if you want to get there fast and are most interested in battle (vs. gathering/crafting).

If you are OK with long queues for Duties that you can fill up with gathering rocks and trees for some extra gil, then a DPS will be OK. But if you want to go fight monsters and wrong-doers (and do-gooders?) for most of your time, having a tank or healer as your class/job will allow you to progress much faster and will save you the frustration of long long queue times.

very few people use the Fates to level anymore as far as I can tell, and 1-15 are very fast. as soon as the dungeon finder unlocks that is the way to go now.
