You sound like you have a really bad case of depression... asking people to be "nicer" isn't the right approach, sorry to say :\ that's life, it's not unicorns and rainbows, you need to learn how to deal with these things on a personal level, you can't go ahead and cry in the corner every-time someone says something mean to you.

Go seek professional help if someone yelling at you in a video game is causing you to be insanely depressed, that's my advice.

also, jumping into extreme fights with no knowledge isn't a very bright idea in the first place... I'm not saying you deserve to be yelled at but you're wasting everyone's time doing so. Would you fly an aircraft with no training? you wouldn't right? the same thing applies here. If you don't want to be a burden, attempt to research the mechanics a little.

Most people in DF are alright. When I'm new to tanking a boss, I occasionally get some verbal abuse. But once I learn the dungeon and know the pulls and positioning then most people just play and, at the end of run, say "thanks that was a smooth run." As a tank it's important to have some thick skin. Let the jerks say what they want. At the end of the day one thing is certain: you CAN learn ANY boss/dungeon/fight in this game through practice. As a tank, you get instant queues, which means that if you queue back to back, you can learn the run in no time. Yeah you might get some complaints in the beginning (learn to play noob, get better gear, you suck, etc etc), but once you learn the run and have better gear then everyone shuts up and follows your lead.

Except in FFXI there was accountability - I played FFXI since NA launch, for 8 years, and I never saw anything near the level of meanness that DF and the anonymity of grouping in FF14 fosters. Surely there were Sky elitists, LS rages over spawns and grieving people for pops, and even some 'must have certain Atma' once Abyssea came out, but on the whole, people who were completely and utterly toxic were quickly blacklisted and word spread. I recall quite a few people on Shiva who had to re-roll once their 'reputation' got to be so bad that no one would party with them.

Here, you don't "need" to have a good reputation. The actions you do rarely have repercussions outside of the occasional report for said mean people being banned or put in jail due to reports. I'm not one of those so-called 'thin skinned' people, but I do feel empathy with them and sympathy for them. No one deserves to be abused about a game - so often people forget there are humans with feelings behind their avatar.

Come to Cerberus and join us :] It won't make the asshats disappear (they're on every server) but at least you'll have nice people to talk too and do some content with

Kat Manx, I've seen that you've been given a few offers already and I'm not sure how you personally feel about switching servers, what sort of ties you have in Goblin or what sort of friendships you may have but if you are looking for a friendly group my FC Wildsky Garden on Faerie are just such a group. I won't sugar coat it as that we're the best people you'd ever meet but our goal is only to help people and experience the content in a pleasant atmosphere. We're not a large FC, only 21 people at the moment, but we're close knit. We involve members of the FC in the activities we do, whether it be dungeons runs or raids, gear or tome farming, treasure hunts or just relaxing fishing trips or roleplay.

As far as verbal abuse goes, I've experienced it a lot. From challenging Pharos Sirius as a i67 BLM and meeting a i90 tank that was just too elitist to stand being near anyone less than i80 to breezing a whole trial of Ifrit HM and watching the MNK and DRG not at all use the 3-gauge limit and I decide to, as a BLM, when Ifrit's health drops below 10%.

Sometimes its a troll, sometimes its just jerks and sometimes its just people venting frustration who later regret it. I've experienced all of it. It's far too commonplace, I agree and all that's done is guide me to make the FC I have and cling dearly to the people I know are kind.

Ill add here an example from the beginning of ARR and the first weeks after release.

    1 Week, 1 Job in 50
2 Week, more Jobs on 50 and 1 Full Set of Darklight
in the 3 Week the first Relics were finished it with the end of the 3 Week we already had the wanna be elistis they only shout for experience People with Relic/DL and you should know the fight even before you atempt him already.

This is basicly my opinion why this Community became so toxic.

    1000x THIS

soloable 1-50 + cheap and instant rewards = Impatient people quickly get their epeen fix, and then expect the endgame to follow suit.... when they perceive their (endgame) progress is stunted by other players, they quickly become angry and abusive. DF opens the door to even more dbaggery, due to the anonymity factor.

FFXI (pre-WotG) did not have this problem because everything took a long time to achieve and players had to rely on the kindness of strangers to achieve any real progress in raising their lvls. If you were a d-bag in FFXI, you quickly got a reputation, and ppl would stop playing with you.

I can count on one hand the jerks I encountered on my FFXI server -- ditto with FFXIV 1.0 -- Conversely, I don't have room in my entire FFXIV blacklist for the asses I've had to deal with in PTs since ARR's release.

Finally had my first run of Qarn last night. It was the highest lvl dungeon I had run after Haukke, and as far as I could tell, the first of the "medium" difficulty dungeons like Brayflox et al. that I've tried running.

It was also my first experience with groups giving up after 1 or 2 wipes. I had two DF parties fall apart before the first boss or after one wipe on the first boss. Frankly, I was irritated but I understood that the tank in both cases didn't want to teach the whole dungeon to the group.

Try number 3 we get in, tank immediately mentions it's his first time in dungeon, turns out it was also the healer's and mine as well (BRD). The only experienced person was the other DPS, who was jp. We jump right into it, and begin wiping on the first boss. We actually wiped to Terataur 7 times, I think we all knew the mechanics by try 3 or so, but we couldn't down it until 45 minutes of trying.

Still, we all talked through it after each run, the other DPS was trying his best to explain things to the Tank and I was assisting with what I knew (glowing tiles removes Doom, Bees kill in 1 hit). We run through the whole rest of the dungeon as fast a we can and by that turn we were a well oiled machine, downed the 2nd midboss and the actual boss on try #1.

Just want to give some other players a bit of hope. We were all pretty discouraged by our repeated failures, but no one left and we all stuck through it till the end, finished with 10 minutes on the clock. Also, nothing good dropped. But it's still my favorite dungeon run yet.

Allakhazam says hi. I dunno what you people are smoking but i saw pretty much the same toxicity in that forum compared to here (during it's time). As well as the same amount of elitist crap. There was the whole "Our fun before your fun" mentality in that game as well.

    Forums ≠ Game

    In ARR or in FFXI

I am talking about in-game experiences.
