Is anyone else scared of dungeons or trying to progress?

What's up with all the mean people?

I don't know. MMORPG's used to be fun. Granted the only experience I had was FFXI and sure there were some meanies, but nowhere close to this game. I hear people saying this behavior is common in other games nowadays like WoW or whatever, but I don't find it an excuse. You shouldn't be allowed to behave badly just because other people behave badly somewhere else too.

I'm scared of entering a dungeon the first time. Sure I watch videos, even though mind you I shouldn't have to. Ridiculous people actually bully you into doing that. Sure I could run with the FC but it's just not that large. I think hardly any FC on my server is large.

I haven't entered Garuda Extreme yet. I'm just too scared of people. I am absolutely sure there's some move I won't dodge. Then the verbal abuse starts.

I did the Crystal Tower thing once. It was horrible. Not the dungeon that is. The people.

I dared to enter Bahamut's Coil once. I didn't do well, was yelled at. Never going to enter it again.

I wish someone was nice.. even once. Real life is horrible enough.. why do I pay for a game to get insulted? Grow a thicker skin you say maybe? Been bullied enough in my life to just not make that possible. Thought I could escape it here. Maybe I can't.

sadly that is the case. I would suggest find fc/ls friends to play with. You can also switch to battle chat just to block any chat you you wont have to read nasty stuff if said, or just leave if people are rude. However its not always the case, theres nice people out there as well.

I can get what you are saying. All I can say is don't give up, it gets better.

People are very unforgiving, this is true. But if you keep trying, you will become good at whatever you are trying to do. It's hard to nail it the first time and I really doubt most of these people giving you trouble did it well their first time either.

Giving up is just sad because, you are just avoiding the problem. It becomes a bigger monkey on your back. It's not just going to go away just because it's unfair. This is just how things can be in this game. It's probably the same in others.

If it's any consolation, usually the biggest "haters" in this game are the ones the struggle the most at the game. It's a way to defend themselves against their own shortcomings. They see a problem in others that they themselves share and lash out at it. I'd like to think the silver lining is, the people that endure at this game longest are generally willing to help, though they aren't going to go advertise their assistance. But, if you keep trying at something and don't give up, they notice; I'd think you'd find, you'd have some allies in your quest.

it's cause they are the same people. those people never played games like FFXI.

you just need to talk to more people that you find are not mean. PUGs and Party Finder groups will be like this most of the time.

I played FFXI, and saw just as many toxic people as here, so people stop needing to use that as a reason.

Yeah, Crystal Tower is a cesspit. I have stopped queuing for it as a result - I'm so sick of the people in there. They make the place god awful.
I keep seeing people say this, but i've yet to run into it, at all. The worst people have been those wanting to speed run the story mode DR. CT i see people not speaking up if they don't know the fight, and causing wipes, but not the cesspit descriptions people are saying, or even the trolling. Almost every run i've done has just been smooth, couple with wipes, but not the toxic attitudes or trolling i've read so much about. Had a bugged boss once, but that's all.

Except in FFXI there was accountability - I played FFXI since NA launch, for 8 years, and I never saw anything near the level of meanness that DF and the anonymity of grouping in FF14 fosters. Surely there were Sky elitists, LS rages over spawns and grieving people for pops, and even some 'must have certain Atma' once Abyssea came out, but on the whole, people who were completely and utterly toxic were quickly blacklisted and word spread. I recall quite a few people on Shiva who had to re-roll once their 'reputation' got to be so bad that no one would party with them.

Here, you don't "need" to have a good reputation. The actions you do rarely have repercussions outside of the occasional report for said mean people being banned or put in jail due to reports. I'm not one of those so-called 'thin skinned' people, but I do feel empathy with them and sympathy for them. No one deserves to be abused about a game - so often people forget there are humans with feelings behind their avatar.

I know exactly what you mean, and while I've started to get a little braver (with the low level duty roulette anyway), I still feel anxiety whenever I queue-up as a tank. I'm usually healer, so I'm outside my comfort zone as it is, then I have a random chance of either getting a decent party (luck has held lately with the roulette so far), or I'll get partied up with that one impatient DPS that runs ahead and aggros stuff to try and drag you forward because they aren't there to play with people, or to play through the dungeon content, they're there to make their numbers go up as fast as possible.

Or you get that snobby Whm that freaks out if a monster gets a couple hits in before you pull them back off... In Copperbell (normal mode)... Heck, you try to be nice to newbies in Sastasha and even then there's a chance you're paired with a new player who spits in your face at the 'dishonor' of even insinuating they need pointers.

If you're getting this abuse constantly I'd change servers. Feel free to come to Behemoth and I'll gladly help you through dungeons. Although I won't be able to help with Coil as I'm in a static our FC have multiple groups running at different levels from our group doing turn 5 to another group attempting T1-2 for the first time.

There are a lot of asshats out there but there are some nice people. The trick is to do content with people at a similar ilevel as this tends to be an indication of how far they have progressed. I'm ilevel 88 but I'd have no problem joining a group of ilevel60's trying to down Titan HM for example because I genuinely enjoy helping people.

Don't let people get you down. Set up a party finder and tell them that this is a learning run. You'll be surprised how many people are in the same boat and will join.

Since you played XI, you probably know why this community changed to such a "mean" one. As easier a game is, the more Elitists will Pop up, while XI is/was a real timesink MMO, which took Ages to complete something it also gave "slower" Players more time to envolve, i also have to mention that Long time ago, YouTube Videos and stuff wasnt the hit and no1 really cared about strategys because Boss Encounters had RNG's and every Group had to find their own way to beat a Boss and everytime you made a new atempt on a Boss he acts different (talking about XI). Ill add here an example from the beginning of ARR and the first weeks after release.

    1 Week, 1 Job in 50
2 Week, more Jobs on 50 and 1 Full Set of Darklight
in the 3 Week the first Relics were finished it with the end of the 3 Week we already had the wanna be elistis they only shout for experience People with Relic/DL and you should know the fight even before you atempt him already.

This is basicly my opinion why this Community became so toxic.
