How about some combination of the above? Your retainer still maintains your house with the moogle visiting often. When you log in, instead of your retainer greeting you, you get something like this...

Retainer: "Thank Azeyma you're here. That moogle just keeps spinning. Did you break it?"
Retainer: "I refuse to clean up the mess that thing makes once it stops twirling."
Retainer: "I think I'm getting sick watching it..."

It didn't occur to me that the retainer could be used that way. So instead of taking it away, its primary service already available could be relocated as the care-taker of the Mog House. Mogs would handle the mail as they have for the last 10+ years.
