Knowing that SE care about this game more than we do, makes me optimistic.
Knowing that SE create FFXI, makes me optimistic.

Its just a matter of time, even pessimistic ppl they are actually optimistic otherwise they won't be playing. But they may don't have much time to wait SE till they done fixing

    Its just my opinion \_(o.o)_/

The amount of stuff that needs to be fixed with the time frame it needs to be fixed in warrants an ex pack. But that's not going to happen, hence the game is never going to be up to par.

The problem with most players is that they dont remember how bad it really was back then so they think nothing has been changed. Let me do a little Time Travel for you to maybe shaken up your memories.

    1. Super Lagy Menus that take ages to open
    2. Market Wards without any system that made it impossible to find ANYTHING
    3. Weapon breaks after 30 minutes of gameplay
    4. Random EXP on monsters that made you want to kill yourself
    5. Crashes at every second guildleve that made you loose it
    6. Crafting Leves that required you to run to camps miles away as level 10
    7. You could only sell to NPCs that are far away from the main area if you had less than 1 hour time available
    8. Party invites at prime times took up to 5 minutes to arrive because of the lag
    9. Aggressive Monsters everywhere in the way so you cant even run to drybone without getting killed (Ants)
    10. Partyplay in Guildleves was pointless because of EXP loss
11 You had to search your whole equip to find whats broken
    12. And the worst of all: Efts from 20 - 50

Whoever says they did nothing in their time should try to actually think how it was back then. The game is actually playable by now. There is still alot left to do of course but if they keep it up it will be a good game sooner or later.

How much of that was fixed before Yoshida and how much was fixed after?

Answer: All of it was fixed before January 2011.

Now list everything that has been done since January 2011.

Actually the weapon damage tweaks may have been after January 2011 and they were much needed and in the works before January. I'd have to actually dig through the old patch notes to find when the weapon issue was finally tweaked to a more tolerable state. Memory indicates it was one thing that may have been done this year.

And giving detailed responses is only one step below "lying". Half the people here have no clue as to what they mean by "assessing costs" and "algorithms". Going into programming specifics woukd be dumb. Either way, nobody is going to give a shit about their early communication if they fix the damn game. Your priorities are all kinds of fucked up if you think they "should" focus on letting us know every single concept, problems in implementation and testing as well as all the setbacks that make the feature less than intended.

"We can't do X" is not a non-response. You may not like it, but it answers your question very clearly. You don't like the answer? That doesn't make it a non-response I'm afraid.

The letters from the producer were a great series, but they need to be way more detailed. We need status of what's holding up development so much, with a very detailed analysis (hint hint, tell us what this "core programming issue" is). We need to know what their exact thoughts are on fixing X or Y, even if the solutions are not correct or what we need (so that we may tell them otherwise). A big chunk of the player polls from the beginning of the year have seen no sort of follow-up.
We don't "need" to know anything.

I'm optimistic. I've felt for a long time the game has potential, and there are a lot of little details that clearly show a lot of dedication on the part of the developers. The way the Cactaur move for example. They really seem like ambulatory cactus's. There are lots of things like that in XIV, so I think they have the talent and dedication on staff to make it first rate. I'm admittedly not a person who expects an MMO to be anything but a diamond in the rough at launch. If anything the really long running MMO seem to launch with issues, and then correct them. Perhaps because in so doing the game ends up being more tailored to its player base. SE's big mistake was not polishing the game for another 6 months. I think if the game had launched at the 1.16 patch level it wouldn't have been panned as much.

I'm optimistic, it has improved a lot since it first came out.
