Ièm optimistic about the games outlook, time aside the updates have all added a healthy dose of content to the game and it seems like they wont be slowing down anytime soon.
I'm extremly interested in seeing what is coming after 1.18

Of course I am optimistic~
I already enjoy the game as it is now, just needs moar content obviously. It is silly to even think that SE would let a numbered FF title fail, they're going to do everything they can to keep improving the game.

I'm not really optimistic, as optimism implies a certain enthusiasm that I just don't have for SE anymore.
I hope they make XIV a great game. I hope the updates start coming faster and the game starts to fill with enjoyable content. I hope that people start returning to Eorzea, yet even my hope is tempered by realism and a sense of uncertainty.
The long and short of it is, SE just hasn't done enough to restore my faith in them, but they do just barely enough to keep my hope of a great game alive.

Gamers are just like every other consumers, One pissed off customer will complain to the whole world, Or fill up a forum full of BS, but the fact is if they didn't care they wouldn't post. The only people SE needs to fear are the ones that just walk away and never say anything or come back. Every single person on this forum is an Optimist because they are here. They read countless posts, post their own, because they are all optimists inside. Myself included,
SE for Life!

lol, it's a sad day when you Azurymber have gone over to the other side..I've seen so many pessimistic posts in all the threads lately I thought I would make an optimistic post :]
I think there are -lots- of reasons to be -very- optimistic about this game.
First, the zones are amazing and beautiful. The graphics and attention to detail are insane, and the game feels incredibly realistic. The whole idea of having giant zones that look the same almost everywhere is awesome because thats what real life is like!
Next, the lore in this game is really awesome. I mean you already have pirates, moogles, time travel stuff, and dragons. I'm really looking forward to when there are time travilingish dragon parts. Like i really want to know why Ishgard fought with Gridania a bunch of times, and I can't wait to know more about the Garlean empire and where they came from. So far the quests in the game are really amazing and aside from the fact that its obvious that whoever programmed some of them were drunk (ex. a mob running in random circles instead of attacking you), they are some of the best quests lore-wise in any game.
Next, you can essentially be a pirate (mrd), and everyone knows pirates are way cooler than ninjas. That alone makes this an epic game. Not only that but you can be a miner too!!! I just think its kinda cool to be able to switch between fighting, mining, and crafting so easily. Like the weapons and battle system in general is awesome.
And lastly i think crafting and gathering are really well done with really awesome minigames for them. I can't see how anyone could ever get bored of them. They are really a lot of fun. And parley is also a really epic game. I'm kinda hoping they release an official online parley game so i can play against other people.
And for the future, we might be getting really cool stuff like more retainers, 2 dungeons, maybe even jump!. And all this really cool mysterious lore must be leading up to something epic!!! I really think this game is going to do amazingly well, and I can't wait for all the new awesome content coming in the next year.
So share your optimism :] and lets drown out all those pessimistic people!
..the same side as me
lol

Another observation.... Why do the biggest complainers/ Pessimists/nay sayers have the most posts on the forums? How much of your life have you wasted posting your 500+ posts on a game that according to your selves isn't worth the time to even play?

From my observations, many of them (not all, but many) haven't even made any significant progress ingame doesn't matter how long ago they started. They even criticize content they can't possibly have any first-hand experience doing.
Therefore, I have two conclusions about these people:
1: They are irredeemable haters who are only interested in trolling at this point, they just want to ruin the game for others for thier own amusement, and won't be staying after 1/6. Thier passing should not be mourned or even given a second thought, my worst regards to them.
2: They are sincere in thier criticism, but are born pessemists, nothing you, me, or anyone else could say will ever convince them that this game has improved or is worth playing. Some will probably stay on after subscriptions start, but will not stay very long as they are incapable of ever seeing anything good in this game. These ppl should be pitied.

I personally love this game even though it gets boring at times but I love the amazing visuals and attention to detail. I kinda look at this first year of the game as 1 big beta test and the game will become real once the PS3 version comes out. I think once the game is finished for the PS3 it will be recommercialized and that will add alot more players to the player base despite how good/bad the PC version was. Either way I think we will have alot to look forward to with this game its just a matter of time.

No one noticed yet he was being sarcastic?
Where the horsebirds at?!

I'd... like to be optimistic.
I'm going to wait till 1.18 to decide. Square's track record over the past generation has been... rough.
