Unplayable Lag

Since tuesday approximately this same lag has appeared out of nowhere. Everything was always fine, and now suddenly out of nowhere I'm in an instance and people will freeze for a few seconds and then everything speeds up to catch up. Sometimes it's short, like half a second, or a second. When it gets extreme I've seen it last like 20 seconds or more. I've noticed something curious: it only happens in instances (like garuda ex, or ifrit ex). However if I'm in the Gridania marketplace there are lots more people walking around and interacting than inside an instance, but everything goes smoothly.

I downloaded and installed WTFast and this solved the issue. However I don't think I should have to pay for a third party service to use a game I'm paying for, when there have never been lag issues till two days ago. Another thing to report is that my ping to the montreal datacenter has remained unchanged; it's the same as it was before the trouble started. Somehow I think the problem is with SE's instance servers.

If your in the UK and by the looks of it a few of you are im guessing its probably your ISP like me ( Sky )

From NA here and I had spikey lag on Tuesday as well. Rather than 5-10 seconds though it was more like 3-5.

Yeah I'm with Sky. Had them on the phone last night testing the line but ill phone them again today.

Zlatan are you on Verizon? Apparently they're having problems too.

Well it seems like there are a lot of people with different ISP's are experiencing this type of spikey lag which renders some instances unplayable. I too was testing the ping and checking my ISP etc etc and nothing has changed on my end so it has to be something SE has done. I don't mind a little bit of delay but the game freezing for 3-5 seconds every other minuet is just getting frustrating.

I do hope SE realise how badly this is affecting a lot of people's ability to play and are looking into a fix.

So we can assume it's mainly a Sky/BT problem? Could it be some kind of throttle? My boyfriend only downloaded a 30GB worth of Elder Scrolls beta recently, but could we still be capped by the ISP?

Im also having the same issues which meant i ended up with a piece of armor I didn't actually want in CT on Tuesday night due to excessive freezing on Acheron.

My Boyf did a trace on our server (we are with Sky) and its looks like we are going through the Level3 hosting stateside which could be the connecting factor in all of these issues.... Willing to bet something to do with the update on server positioning Tues morning and its affecting any traffic that follows that trace route.

We also tried WTF and we got 90ked out of our Coil run after a massive lag spike/screen freeze

Sky/BT/Verizon FIOs and AT&T have been having issues with XIV lately. It's likely the hops taken.
