It's not just feasible - it's the correct way to do it.I beleave that they will atleast see if its feasable, from what I have heard the problem is to do with Dx9 having to draw the differant resolutions for the desktop and the game. I beleave it could be fixed if they make a change to the engine but that would be a botch, also Dx10/11 should fix it but it doesnt look like we will get that anytime soon
This is effectively a bug. SE says it's "by design" but it is a bug. It's well-documented how to do this in Direct3D.
