Please change Selene's Silence Skill, I'm begging you! Or tell me, what I do wrong.

    Hey all,

I'm quite disappointed because Selene is in theory my favourite fairy out of the two because I prefer her support buffs - but one of her skills is practically useless.
It is her second skill that silences the enemy.

    Cooldown duration: 40 seconds
    Effect duration: 1 Second

I'm very sorry but one second of silence is rather useless, specially with a cooldown this long. A 1:40 ratio doesn't seem justified to me at all.

I am concerned about this as fairies only have four skills so all skills should be useful and take a noticable role when they are cast.
However Selene's Silence - and yes, she has cast it many times when I used her - never achieved anything. I didn't even notice it was applied until seeing that the skill is still on half of its CD.

Some people have said that the skill might be special and is cast when a monster/boss prepares a big attack that is stopped by the Silence skill, but she never did so when I used her. Neither did she save the skill for such an occasion nor did she specifically cast it when this happened.

Since I also like to use her when soloing I cannot really make efficient use of her melee skill boost, so only magic skill boost and heal are left for me.
The silence skill would be a great help though!

Also in parties it's a disadvantage when she lacks one of her skills. It makes her stand back behind Eos and that is really sad.
To me the fairies symbolised different playing/support styles but both being equally useful in their own ways.
De facto I only use Eos in parties now though, as all her skills are useful and complement my healer role. Why use Selene when she has less skills practically and Eos is a bit better?
(I use Selene solo for stubborn reasons and because there no one suffers my whacky playing style.)

Some also said that Selene is useful when you have two scholars with Eos and Selene each, which means, when you have propper support by Eos you can also play Selene, but that still makes her the second fairy in groups and solo (except for stubbornness...).
I liked how both carbies had different roles/places. With the fairies it seems that you should use Eos mainly and Selene is a nice bonus.

That's sad. I like being the main healer and have Selene support the party or myself.

So please, either say what the benefits of this skills are that I don't see or whether I should contact bug support (although some friends playing scholar confirmed that it lasts 1 second for them, too).

If both his not the case, please make both fairies equally useful but for different situations like carbies or the SMN pets. It's sort of lame when SCH out of all pet users has only one (inofficial) main pet which is better placed in almost all situations and the second one only being bonus.

Hmm, now that you mention it, I think Ifrit plumes can be silenced...

Did you try it with Selene?

Does she keep the skill available and then use it to prevent such attacks as the plumes?

Because if she does then maybe I'm just bugged and should contact bug support.

She uses it only when the enemy start casting something. Its a interrupt silence, not a disabling one.

I know that the fairies don't use the 2 big cooldowns if in the beggining of the fight, you tell her to 'Obey' instead of 'Sic'. Need to test this on the silence, though. Eos uses the aoe heal even in Obey stance.

They don't listen to Obey... in Steady, they only use Embrace on targets with <70% hp until you give them a command, cancelling steady.

The bigger problem with Selene is that the Fey Glow and Fey Light tooltips lie(says can't be used when they overwrite big difference) and that Selene won't use Fey Light unless you tell her to but she'll spam Fey Glow off cooldown if she's not set to Steady. I think the intention was shes supposed to alternate them but that's not what she does.

My personal tests show that the silence doesn't actually interrupt all that often. I need to test it more extensively but on several (more like 10 attempts) I have told her to obey and then manually used the silence during a long channel (about 25% through the enemy channel) and it didn't interrupt. I mean I guess she may have not used it fast enough after my command but it didn't interrupt the ability the mob was channeling.

Edit: Lets say it did interrupt properly (still not sure) The fact that we have to manually use this to make her use it properly is a huge issue. We are about 95% of the time either casting a spell or targeting an ally the chances of us being available to force her to cast this right is obscene. Now if we had access to pet macros then it may be different we could bind it to <t> and <tt> in a macro and use it when our allies tell us or if we happen to see him channeling. In my opinion it might be better off being a stun or a sleep, the stun would make it so that at least her spamming it off cooldown wouldn't feel so awful and the sleep would allow for us to use it to cut down on the number of enemies we would need to heal through. I could even see a small AoE bind around her being useful but that might be a bit too much.

Selene's silence will be helpful in Binding Coil when your Bard or Pally mess up (or you dont have one... since you need to alternate 2 silences).

And yes... it is an interrupt, not a Silence in the traditional sense of other games.

I have noticed that my Selene (in Amdapor Keep) will use her silence to interrupt the Succubus through out the dungeon , I am testing in coil this monday on the ads in turn 1 with fc to see if she can effectively interrupt him or not , i will post my results

The Succubus skills are all silenceable which is why she works really well with them. However, on Sic she will try and silence anything even if it can't actually be silenced. She can be used to silence ADS. I do it when I run coil. However, you need to have her on Obey so that you can use her silence when you want it. A good thing to do it make a macro that silences your Focus target. However, in turn 2 I have the person I am to take Rot from focused. So after I got used to using her I took away the macro and use us the skill. A quick hit of the tab button targets ADS and I hit the skill fast enough.

Sorry but this is slight nonsense, in the sense saying she is useless.
You must micromanage, and use it accordingly. It is an interrupting silence e.g ADS high voltage, rams voice etc
If you have issues using it, make sure she is on obey, make sure she is in range and also make sure you are healing enough so she is free cast it when needed.
