RESTORE: A unique appoarch to fix some of Eorzea's most discussed issues.

Small zones, lack of open world content, no crafting end game. These are some of the most talked about issues on the forums right now. The question is how do you fix them in a fun and interesting manner? A new game system called Restore.

It has been 5 years since Bahamut laid waste to Eorzea, yet Adventures aren't doing much in the rebuilding process. Why? Shouldn't we be the ones finding ruins, rebuilding the cities, discovery ancient secrets? That is the concept behind Restore.

The idea is simple. With every new patch, new sections of the world are added. But it isn't just available. No, each server has to unlock it. When a new areas are added, there is a "Life Bar" on trees, stone walls, mountain faces, etc. DoL are required to take daily quest and join in on DoL F.A.T.Es. When the bar reaches zero the area is open.

DoH is required to build structure like scaffolds and such to keep the "Life Bar" from going back up by also completing dailies and DoH F.A.T.Es.

Now let's talk rewards. Just like DoW/DoM, crafters will receive tokens which can be used to buy unique items for crafting. DoL/DoH Chocobo barding, unique materials to make unique gear, shards, and so on.

Now for a practical example on how Restore would work, let's take Amdapor Keep as an example. First the area to access the Keep would be blocked off. DoL/DoH would have to clear the land and open up the area. After which DoW/DoM would have the cleanse the land of monster and such before you could unlock AK.

Obviously this is a really rough idea right now but it's one that I believe MMO's are going to move toward. Where players feel like they are effecting the game world and making a difference in the living, breathing environment.

    To recap:
    • DoL/DoH clear the land to access new areas on the map
    • DoW/DoM would be required to protect the area that DoL/DoH is restoring.
    • DoL/DoH would have dailies and F.A.T.E with rewards based on tokens.
    • New dungeons and stuff are added to the game in this fashion instead of a simple quest to unlock it.

I remember doing something like this in Wow for one of the expansions, can't remember what it was called though.

It had a bad side effect though. The first world to open the new area had like a cajillion people transfer to it immediately. Then those people couldn't log in and had huge login ques.

AQ in original WoW? Crashed/lagged servers due to everyone being in Silithus.

Exactly. We truly wanted to save the world.....it had nothing to do with the mount.... at all

Nonetheless, I think something like this would be fairly interesting.

I think he's talking about the Isle of Quel'danas, which was gradually unlocked as the server as a whole completed isle-related daily quests.

That said, I've pushed for something along those lines, but tied to daily quests or even doing resource gathering like the AQ gate event. The OP's suggestion gives DoL and DoH content they can participate in, which is a step above what I've suggested in the past.

Having played on a private server with a population of around 300-500, well, needless to say it took us a while, haha!

Directly on-topic though, I like the idea, but I also have to agree with Tiggy: once it's done, it's done, and even if people could continue to do quests in the name of 'general upkeep', I don't think as many people would. I'm already getting that vibe from the Beastmen dailies. Once everyone finishes those up again, we'll be stuck with a barren Zanr'ak and Slyphlands.
I'd implement it as a one-time unlock because having everyone participate gives current players something to do while also creating a milestone that you can be part of. THose of us who were around before the Calamity have our milestone in the history of this game.

If, say, the devs were to implement the restoration of Ala Mihgo using the OP as a base, the people who participated would at least get a feeling of "well, my presence made a difference in the world" without specifically giving names or anything like that. I personally was present for both AQ AND Quel'danas, and I still look back fondly at something in the game world that was unlocked due to a combined effort from all players.

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
    * Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)

The dailies in Quel'Danas where the area became bigger when enough quests were completed, or the call to arm to open the gates of AQ.

Well there would have to be a system in place that allows servers with low population to progress just as quickly as one that is full.

I believe Blizzard had something in place where resources were also auto-generated over time so that everything will unlock eventually on its own, which helped out the smaller servers.

It would be neat, but then they'd finish and it would be all over. You need something more long term.
