Melding help!

Hey everyone, I'm currently on the quest An Armorer's Pride and I have to attach materia to an iron hopolon. I have the ability to create materia and I'm the same level as the level required on the hopolon to attach materia yet whenever I go to choose sub-commands, there's no choice for meld. Am I doing something wrong? Any help would be appreciated.

have you spoken to the goblin at the Bonfire, to start materia melding?

I talked to the guy standing next to him and completed the quest Waking the Spirit and unlocked the ability to materialize. Do I have to continue the main story to talk to the goblin? Or is it the same thing?

Problem solved! I just had to talk to Mutamix, but there was no quest icon which is what was throwing me off.

You'll need to go there one more tame later on to activate the forbiden melds / overmelds - you would need to perform five (?) melds in front of hime (you'll keep the items afterwards so simply meld something you want to keep / use or meld some trash resistance materia to gear you want spirit bond faster).
