Why be a millionaire?

It's not really hording if there's nothing to spend it on. The game gives you pretty much everything just for playing. Even if you do buy a house, within another month or two you'll be back up to a million again -- and you'll already have a house! Two if you count your personal one!

Until recently I was busy gathering/crafting to make as much money as possible in hope that I could use it to buy or make something for my DoW/M classes. Turns out that is not in the game design, so I've stopped crafting/gathering for profit. I've become the DoW/M you want us all to be, grinding the same dungeons for Philosophy/Mythology which means gil is just an on screen artifact left over from a time when it had purpose.

I did the same thing... have 4 crafting and one gathering job at 50, and realized there was no point... so I started grinding gear on my main recently... Only the rest of the world had a 3 month head start on me so I just started gearing up end-game before 2.1 came out. The good news is that it's easier to gear up then it used to be.

Rich people can donate a few gil to me, so I can buy a beastman mount. I'm kinda broke since I've been donating all my money to FC so we can get a house.

Money sink = poor people. It's tax deductible!

I hear you OP, I'm in the same boat.

I'm a grand master crafter but I've pretty much stopped crafting for gils all together.

I did spend millions crafting penta melded 2 star accessories but when patch 2.1 happened materia prices took a free fall and so did the philo mat prices...

Right now housing is the only major gil sink. I'm sure they'll add more in the future.

I got 2,1 mil nothing to spend it on. just keeping it there I spend money to buy mats for crafts makes things easier

I see your "Why would you want millions of gil?" and raise you a "Why wouldn't you want millions of gil?".

I for one enjoy knowing that there will be very little that I can't afford, and that I can buy whatever I want, when I want it. Do you keep money in your bank account despite not necessarily needing that money at the moment? I do, and I hold on to extra gil in game that I don't necessarily need too.
