In-Game Time: occurred over a period of several in-game hours

Steps: Defeating the enemies that pop after examining the Imperial Shortsword cleared the map marker for the Garlean-like Man. Upon abandoning the quest and interacting with the Garlean-like Man first, I found the opposite true (the Shortsword marker disappeared).
