    Where is everybody?

I like the content of this game, mostly I may prefer some more innovation but that's another topic, my problem is this is suppose to be a community multiplayer game and it doesn't feel like it to me.

I'm not sure what's wrong but I am in three linkshells and a FC and whenever I come on people may be "on" but no one ever seems truly "present", I never see any open chat channels besides maybe in Mor Dhona seeking people for various runs.

The game feels dead and with a lack of a real community and that saddens me as that is really roughly half the point. If there is no community why don't I just play a cheaper(no monthly fee) single player game?

It might be just a server issue. However I hate to spend the transfer money just for the new place to be just as dead.

I'm in Lamia right now and it feels like a ghost town community wise. Are there much better servers for this that people know of or should I just give up?

Have you tried dancing naked in a major city? That usually attracts a crowd rather quickly on Leviathan.

Note: I also only play at peak hours (after work) so that may swing my findings a bit.

    Always remember the Silver Rule:
"Treat others as they treat you!" ...or something like that.

Balmung seems pretty lively during the day and dies down extremely early in the morning. I have 2 LS and my FC so my chat log is a rainbow of different color conversations.

Moogle also seems quite lively. I play in the evening on weekdays, which I believe are peak hours on a European server. Not sure what it's like outside peak ours.
But it's true people chat very little in the public channels, except for FC recruiting, FATE parties and dungeon/primal runs. And the occational need materia meld / want to meld materia-shouts.
My suggestion is try to run your own FC, as you are better suited to handpick the people you play with.

I don't know, I see people talking about random stuff, sometimes even roleplaying and such almost anywhere I go. Ironically its the cities that feel the quietest to me, even though you'd expect that's where the most chatting and community interaction.

As for why don't you just play a single player game- community is one part of it and an important one i agree, but the way things can unfold when you don't have control over everything and other people or monsters react in unusual ways is what gives an online game that spice that a single player game sometimes doesn't- unpredictability.

Well to be honest if you're not in some sort of instance you're not being very productive in FFXIV

I agree with that. And to me, it's also very much about knowing that the people I see are not just dead computer AI, but real people playing. If you heal them when they're in a tight spot, you might get a 'thanks' or a bow in return, which would never happen in a singleplayer game.

I don't know what you're play window is, but you may wanna consider jumping onto a different server or at least general social group. I play a little after 4pm PST on Midgardsormr. The general community's interaction with each other varies from town to town, but my FC and LS are always chatty.

    1. The number of Lv.50 classes/jobs you have says nothing about your skill.
    2. FATEs are responsible for the majority of Lv.50 "derps".
    3. Don't blame a healer if you died in red zones; that was all on you.
    4. As a healer, healing is your top priority; DPSing comes second.
    5. As a tank, your healer can only keep you alive for so long; avoid red zones, too.
    6. As a DPS, you're partially responsible for hate management, too.
    7. Don't belittle newbs for their lack of skill or knowledge; you were one of them once.

What in game is there to do for people? The games content structure is designed to be eaten like a candy bar, so people don't have much else other than dailies or roulette's.
