I am trying to suggest using something which is perfectly fine to use.
I am 100% sure SE would be fine with you using it to play FFXIV with.

It doesn't matter how many times anyone says it's against the ToS, I have mentioned Steam on many threads on this forum in the past and I have received no warnings about it.

Please stop saying applications such as Steam are against the game's ToS, it's getting really old now. It's especially aggrivating when I'm trying to help people out.

Also saying "oh but SE shouldn't force me to find workarounds" is very childish. Why say "no" to simple, easy and legitimate solutions? Why is it so difficult to DEAL WITH IT while SE sort things out on their end in the meantime?

I seriously don't understand the mentality of a few people on this forum.
Maybe I'm just being trolled. Please say you're trolling me so I can be relieved of the feeling that some people are mindless enough to say that using Steam is something which could potentially get you banned.

Well technically speaking it is against the TOS but SE would have to be complete asses to ban you for using it to make up for their bad programming. I don't use the Steam overlay as I don't like the built in browser so I play in windowed mode and use Shift Window to force fullscreen. Technically I could get a ban for that too but again SE would have to be out of their mind to actually ban someone for it because they can't program a proper fullscreen+alt/tab option.

Yes, I understand that it is a 3rd party application. But like you say, SE would be out of their minds to do anything like banning people for the use of the Steam overlay. This is why I get rattled when someone tries to make a point about it being against the ToS and even advising against using it because it is against the ToS.

Also when SE made that post about 3rd party applications, I am pretty sure it was referring to applications which have a direct effect on the gameplay. If it meant every program which was not by Square Enix, that would mean an internet browser beside your FFXIV window while playing windowed would be considered against the game's ToS. Heck, even using the Windows operating system would be against the ToS. This is where it starts getting ridiculous.
If anything, SE need to update that post regarding 3rd party applications and tools and state exactly what they do not want people using instead of lazy blanket terminology.
