    PS3 worth getting a SSD?

    Hello community,

So i think the title is self explanatory but anyway i have some questions about the upgrade of buying an SSD. I plan on buying a Kingston 120gb ssd or even a 60 gb just for this game.

    - Is the upgrade that huge and noticeable?
    - Loading times get really fast?
    - Fate mobs can actually appear?
    - Overall rendering delay and npcs appearing faster?
    - Does the size of the ssd affects any improvement?
    - Any difference regarding the time you have to leave the aoe?
    - Can I actually use the game effects without getting lag every time?

    Thanks!

Yes, it it worthwhile. However, unless you only play XIV on your PS3, the 60GB will not be big enough (or will be a huge pain in the ass).

    - Is the upgrade that huge and noticeable?
    Yes.

    - Loading times get really fast?
Yes. 2 to 3 times faster than before.

    - Fate mobs can actually appear?
    Yes.

    - Overall rendering delay and npcs appearing faster?
Yes. As an exemple, before I upgrade I was "alone" for like 10 sec on aetherytes and market boards. No longer the case.

    - Does the size of the ssd affects any improvement?
I dont think so. That said, even 120Gb will feel small if you had more. Dont go below 120Gb btw, the OS and a few games data already takes 20-30Gb.

    - Any difference regarding the time you have to leave the aoe?
Not really, thats not the issue here, latency is. However when the effect goes off, it will no longer freeze up, even for a sec (ifrit eruptions, titans WotL)

    - Can I actually use the game effects without getting lag every time?
Yes. I have effects turned on for me and party at full, zero issue even in CT. I recommend turning off HP bars for everyone tho (its ugly and can cause lag).

I've always wanted to upgrade to an SSD but for the size I need I just can't justify the price tag. I have however noticed a series of Hybrid drives coming out that are more decently priced for the capacity. Obviously the performance wouldn't be as good as a true SSD but surely it'd be an improvement over a standard HDD right?

Just wait another month or 2 and get a PS4.

All your problems will be solved.

I only play FFXIV on the PS3 at the moment and will be getting this for it. It helps a ton on loading up zones. Also with AoE load up times. Of course this is as you play the game it saves certain loading conditions that you repeat often through the game. It has it's only little "memory" to notice what is loaded up often and remembers the load ups and such. At first you won't notice much, but as you begin to play it more and more, load times get faster and faster. You can use these also for PS4.

SSD 120 GB by Samsung was what I was getting at first, but you can go with a SSDHD with like 1TB of memory for like 100 bucks. SSD is like 2-3 seconds faster as far as loading zones up compared to the SSDHDs, but you save a bunch of money and have a ton of memory. My friend has an SSD on his PS3 and brought it over and we played side by side. *Mouth Dropped* after noticing how much ridiculously faster it was. I would definitely invest in this and later put in your ps4. Not just FFXIV will benefit from it! Worth they buy for more than FFXIV. Get you one!

As soon as I solid state'd mine, my load times went to a millisecond slower than my mates gaming rig, running on the same Internet next to each other, and he has ssd too. Before he use to be able to teleport and teleport again before mine would load
