Console thing is a BS excuse SE just pissing me off lately now
This was posted in response to asking about support for DirectX 10 and DirectX 11, specifically. When taking into consideration the performance of the PlayStation 3 version, we currently have no plans of supporting DirectX 10/11. However, in the event that large changes or alterations take place to the graphics, or if DirectX 10/DirectX 11 continue to grow in popularity, we will begin to support them.

Then your developers need to be fired because they have no concept of the current Marketplace. All graphics cards from 2006/2007 have been sold with DX10/11 compatibility. Only about 20% of the current market cards do not have this compatibility. 99% of the cards that are capable of playing this game all support DX10/11 functionality. It is almost as if you guys do not want this game to succeed.
Ps3 limitations is a piss poor excuse and should in no way hamper the development of the PC client. Then again i guess as always SE forgets PC players are also there customers as well.
For your information, Square Enix, there are MMOs that already support DirectX 11 and they have a much lower "visual quality" standard than FFXIV does. Get your sh*t straight - there are absolutely no excuses for skipping out on DirectX 11 when the majority of PC video cards support it, with nearly every major Western game developer making the switch to full DirectX 11 support on their recent and upcoming titles. This was posted in response to asking about support for DirectX 10 and DirectX 11, specifically. I'll clarify: USING DIRECTX 11 WILL ACTUALLY IMPROVE THE PERFORMANCE OF YOUR STUPID CLIENT ON MACHINES THAT SUPPORT IT. SO F*CKING IMPLEMENT IT.
And if that doesn't make it clear enough...
DirectX 11 is more powerful than DirectX 9. Savvy?
So, use it.
Calm down sparky, You're going to Hemorrhage. The Game Looks awsome, DX9/10/11 WhoTF Cares. Should they have done it? Yes, does the game still look awsome? yes
My Video Card running FFXIV on DX9: COUGH WHEEZE. CHUG CHUG CHUG CHUG. COUGH WHEEZE.
My Video Card Running FFXIV on DX11? I'm FEELIN' FINE AND I'M KICKING ASS.
Theoretically. (Reason? On FFXIV, my video card's power draw gets to the point where my FREAKING ROOM'S LIGHTS START BUZZING. Is that even supposed to be normal!?)
The solution is OBVIOUS. Because DX11 has much more streamlined rendering code than DX9. Try playing a DX11 game and then comparing it to its DX9 version (Aliens vs Predator, Battlefield Bad Company 2, etc), and examining its performance metrics.
I am telling everybody here: DX9 is a dinosaur. It cannot handle so much detail that XIV is trying to push on us, while DX11 is perfectly optimized for this kind of detail with the right kind of work.
The same PS3 version Amazon has given a 2020 pre-order release date for?
Sorry, couldn't resist.
Anywho, if this does lower the strain on my poor PC (especially when moving quickly through towns) then I hope they reconsider. My PC is about a year old with decent specification but when I'm traveling through parts of Limsa I'm scared it's going to eject itself and no amount of option tweaking seems to help... which was disappointing after about an hour of try setting, log in, le fail, log out, try another setting, repeat x10. Might be nice is some of the options weren't all or nothing too but settings (and lack of decent ingame settings menu) are another rant!
The Ul'duh Inn is like an antique shop...full of crap and always closed."You don't have to say anything, I just look at your life now and work backwards." - Black Books
the lack of proper options and included in the game not outside really makes this a pain to customize. The same PS3 version Amazon has given a 2020 pre-order release date for?

And still there are too few options that really affect performance, so you have high detail or pixel heaven. But still the pixel heaven is hardware hungry.
But on the other hand... adjusting the grass density wont help... there is almost no grass.![]()
This is no excuse directX 10/11 are supported on all graphics cards these days that can run ffxiv well, all not supporting directX10/11 will do is shorten the lifespan of the game, and make it harder for the devs to improve the game. This was posted in response to asking about support for DirectX 10 and DirectX 11, specifically. DirectX10/11 will make the game run better, also in a couple of years ATI and Nvidia will stop support for Dx9 which will start to affect performance. If the game is going to be successful it needs atleast Dx10 support.
