Its shame I have this and the "One to Fifty, One Zone - Long OP" thread open in different tabs, I could be on two separate forums... :/

How'd they even design this game without starting on DX10-11. The new MMO they planned to run for the next 5-10 years and they start off with old technology. That's like... using cd's instead of dvds(bluray!) nowadays to store information. There is no logic!

I don't know how instantly make game run better for consumers can't be toward the top of the "To Do" list. Really I mean as stated countless times nearly anyone playing this game has a card capable of DX 10 and 11 so there is NO excuse to not have DX 10 or 11 and more so when the performance of the game is such a big problem for so many people.
EDIT: Is it evil of me to think that SE not looking into Dx10/11 means they really aren't listening to everyone? I mean it's easily one of the most requested things and for good reason. It can easily help improve the game and is really a no brainier.

Don't make me angry or I shall cut down all the trees and laugh as you can't breath!!!
I was reading an article on a gaming site today discussing the first video of the PS3 version of Battlefield 3 that was shown recently. While the game looks really good, it's not as nice looking as the PC version. When the developers were asked about this, they said that it was only natural that the PC version looked better given the increased performance modern PCs offer. If the PC version looked the same as the PS3, they said, it would mean that they had done a very poor job developing the PC version.
So... why exactly shouldn't this game support DirectX 10/11? Should the PC version only look as good as the PS3 version? Listen, SE...we're...*NOT* going to be mad about the fact that the PC version looks a lot better. That's only natural given the specs of modern PCs. Both versions should use the maximum potential of the platforms they're on. Ignoring DirectX 10/11 only hurts the game. It doesn't help anything.
I play on the PC now, and I'm planning on buying the PS3 version when it comes out. Regardless of what the PC version looks like, I'll probably spend more time playing the PS3 version simply because I like to play in the living room. It's just a personal preference. So consider me a PS3 player when I say this: make the best PS3 version you can, and give your PC version DirectX 10/11 support! Anything less in this day and age is inexcusable.
PS3 uses opengl for the most part, but there are middleware just for those DX9 -> Opengl situations. The 360 also uses DX9.
DX10 cards are aplenty so I would consider even some DX10 features for sake of PC group which is not exactly plenty at this point.
DX11 is kind of a waste, as it is very "not" popular from a business standpoint. You care barely see a DX11 capable card in most PCs out there...though with FF14's PC requirements..probably a good chunk.
I'm certainly not the first to note that even the top brass at SE fore-sore what making a modern MMO would entail. They are in over their heads as far as their team goes. In sheer numbers, let alone programming capacity.
Edit*
To elaborate, they have obviously created an engine which is capable of so much more than in its current state. (reiteration of many threads...)

IMO their worst mistake was to assume that creating a reusable game engine was trivial. Worse, to delude themselves into thinking they could develop a game based on said work-in-progress engine in parallel. Developing software based on an immature framework will easily at least double the required work.I'm certainly not the first to note that even the top brass at SE fore-sore what making a modern MMO would entail. I must point out at what a much smaller company accomplished with Tera using unreal engine 3. Haters love to bitch and flame that game and that engine but if you only compare graphics performance and content, and you are not a fanboy you will also have to wonder: WTF was SE doing for 6 years?

I knew the would play the PS3 limitation card sooner or later, just didn't think they would play it before the FFXIV PS3 version was out.
This has a lot more to do with Windows XP than it does with graphics cards. I would wager that the vast majority of XP users playing this game have DX10/11-capable cards but don't have the operating system to use it. I may be wrong but I think Japan has been a lot slower to move on from XP.
