PS3 to PS4

Now i play on the ps3 but when this comes out on ps4 id like to play on there as far as i have heard the game will be free to ppl who own it on ps3 is that all so far {ppl like me who own the digital download ver?} and since i have the collectors edition will i need to get that ver to use my stuff? ty to anyone who may know

You dont need to get that version to use your stuff , everything is locked on your PSN en SE account . For example if you buy the normal PC version your CE PS3 will be there.

What about if you don't have the digital version? I brought the disc for PS3 and would like to change to PS4. Do I have to buy the game again and will I still be able to carry on with the same character?

SE has said that we won't have to purchase the game again. They haven't explained specifics, but we will receive a PS4 version for free if you are a paying customer on PS3. Not sure if this means will we get a digital voucher (most likely) or a physical copy of the game (much less likely). The only concrete details they have given, is that when you do make the switch you won't be able to access your account on your PS3 any longer. Switching will effectively switch the service plan you have set-up through SE, to enable playing on your PS4 but disabling playing that account on PS3. That's really the extent of what I have seen so far on the subject.

Pretty sure it'll simply flag your account as owning the PS4 edition when it comes available, so you'd just need to log into PSN, download the client and away you go. My logic dictates that being the easiest/fastest solution.

I think your account gets upgraded to PS4 in that you can't play PS3 anymore. Which could be a problem if your PS4 ever broke although unlikly

I'm waiting on PS4 too I'm thinking it will be digital. Probably the same way people just upgrade from PS3 to PS4 with Call of Duty and Battlefield

It will be digital. Heck even if you bought the physical PS3 version you wind up playing on the Digital version. Since the code that came with physical edition gave you access to the digital edition not just flagging your account for PS3 access. It was added to your download list.

The easiest way would be that they change the Download to PS3/PS4(kind of like they do now for psp/vita titles). Then you can just go to your download list on the PS4 and download it. But since they said you would lose PS3 if you take the free PS4 access. So probably then have to go to your mog account and select to turn your PS3 access license into a PS4 one.

Also they recently said they might do PS4 CE, so depending on what comes with it, might be worth it for you just to buy a new PS4 CE then deal with upgrading.

Retail copy of XIV for PS3 is still a digital copy. Disc just acts as an installer, and it's the serial key it comes with that ties the game to your PSN account. The game even shows up in your PSN download history so you can install it again without the disc.
