    A change of demographic

Recently, S-E sent an email inviting me to take part in an online questionnaire, but when I tried it, I was politely turned away as soon as I entered my age - 45.

I know the games industry has to be pretty shrewdly targeted, and that most games are based on the wants of the male 16-25 demographic, but I wonder if that might be too narrow for a subscription-driven game? My two young stepsons, in their lower twenties, are about to leave the game, having reached lvl 50, got their relic weapons, and finished the main story line. Most of our free company seem to feel the same way (several have already left). On the other hand, I'm still loving the game, and have every intention of staying.

My stepsons freely admit that they seldom play a game for more than six months, and neither do most of their friends. Maybe an older demographic, more likely to stay a little longer, might have some valid input for online market research?

I'm only slightly over this demongraphic at 28, still in the scope of it when you get down to it, but I never agreed with them. I feel like the average age of a gamer, especially the long term ones, tends to be vastly underestimated. I'm pretty certain the, "average age" was found to be late 20's to mid 30's.

In short I fully agree with you, maybe game companies should stop looking at the fickle teen to mid twenties males and widen their scope, maybe they already do and they just had plenty of replies from your age group perhaps?

Why would they quit the game? This game is still young and growing, gaining content as we speak. They may have completed the current content, but I assure you, there is much more to come.
