T5, Fireball... how exactly does this work?

I really don't understand the damage on this ability. Sometimes the damage is really high and sometimes really low. Is it effect by warrior debuff? Mnk Int debuff?

Also how do healers survive this? Even with 4 people they take way to much damage.

We 4 stack for fireballs and even with lowest HP in the party as WHM it very rarely puts me below 1k HP after it hits. SCH will usually succor before and I'll Medica II after.

We've not really tried 3 stack much but there were occasions where 3 stack has hit me for almost 5k despite the other 2 people only being hit for around 3.5 ish. No idea why, a crit maybe? But that's one reason we don't do it that way, and we have the dps to take down 4-stack conflags anyway.

Fireball damage is split between the people getting hit by it and is further reduced by their magic defense value on their gear. Everyone doesn't have the same magic defense so people take different amounts of damage.

No, I know it's weird, but fireball is physical defense.

4.1k HP is a bit low even for 4way splits. There is always that chance of a crit right? I do 4way splits with 4.3k HP on my SCH and I get down pretty low if I don't have time to Succor before the hit. Also, have your ST keep StoneSkin on the healers and low HP DPS. The healers can SS people as well but the amount of damage that Twin can dish out in a short time is stupid so really we don't always have time to do this.

My static does a different tactic to both give longer conflag times and more of an ability to isolate the potential damage. We have our WHM stoneskinning the entire party besides me as the MT, setting up our SCH and SMN pets directly behind Twin, and then the rest of the party splitting into two groups near either side. Whoever gets fireball targeted moves to the pets, the pets laugh at the fireball damage, and even our weakest member survives thanks to the stoneskin. The only times that this particular strategy hasn't worked has been when, say, someone gets fireballed, then conflagged right away, then as soon as the conflag was broken, they were fireball targeted again and getting stoneskin back up and their health back up didn't happen fast enough. But those are rare bits of "RNG doing RNG things" timing. Otherwise, this method keeps the rest of the party very safe. At worst, one person needs to be rezzed. At best, only one person needs to be topped back off.
