Long term goals!

A MMORPG needs to have long term goals for players. And to me, this game doesn't have it.

But that could be my definition of how long a long term goal is. So I was wonder, how long do you all consider long term goals should be in MMORPGs?

And how short, short term goals are?

I consider something that can be done in under six months a short term goal. That's me.

Anything that taks more than one month islong term, because it means I have to pay for another month to achieve that goal.

hopefully get a career and maybe get married. Working as an armorer/blacksmith part time is only gonna get me so far.

If you care about housing I guess that could be considered a long term goal by many. Then again, I see many people who were outraged by the long-term "goaliness" of saving money.

True, but people seems to have something against farming gil at all. There was so much complaining by players that they couldn't just run dungeons and get showered with gil. It even used to be standard that you had to farm money in games to do stuff.

But I can at least understand them in this game. S-E has pretty much crashed the economy on purpose. Which means, to get a house, they would have to spend 24/7 for months to get a large house.

Housing is a long term goal but everyone burst into an uproar over that. It's not even that long term. My FC of 4 people is already halfway to owning a medium sized house.
