They already do play both daytime and night-time tracks for the 3 main cities. Could be a lot of work to do that for every other zone.

Isn't that a pit off topic since the ot is about battle music?

Anyway new tracks are pretty much the cheapest additions to a game this scale. SE already has fired all their in-house composers to do work only on freelance basis. Commissioning even 40 tracks wouldn't be at all impossible nor terribly expensive for them.

Personally I would love for them to focus on giving the monotonous battle audio more love first but more music for night too just wouldn't be at all impossible if they wanted to do it. According to salary survey in game industry done in 2012 music is really cheap in games. Especially freelance. I'm just saying that while the music is good the requests like the OP made are NOT major when it comes to development costs.

the higher level dungeon battle theme USED to be my favorite ffxiv song, because it was in the trailer announcing summoner and scholar

but now i can barely stand it... i do think we should have like a sort of radio in the ui where we can choose to play different songs, and maybe make it so that doing certain things allows you to unlock more songs

There is SOooOOOoo much game time with that ONE track playing ALL the time that it's not even close to being funny nor enjoyable. Please add at least ten times more tracks for battle songs.

Also I'm not a music expert but just switching one instrument of the battle song doesn't make the track itself any different. We need NEW music to these and a lot of it. I know you can do it because the game has a great OST. It's just implemented poorly.
I agree completely with your post, except I didn't like the battle theme at all, even at first. @.@ Way too much treble sound (which is particularly grating when combat sounds in general are all super high pitched) and I just don't... like it really. xD

I'm surprised no one mentioned dungeon music at all, the worst offender imo. That awesome ass Pharos Sirus music they have only for it to play for a minute and a half. Highly disappointing.

Firstly, what proof do you have that SE fired their composing staff? Sure Uematsu resigned years ago to undertake freelance composing, but he still retains a working relationship with SE (after all, 1.0 featured his first work on a FF game since the theme song to FFXII), but this idea that SE sacked all their music staff is quite ridiculous and doesn't hold weight. Besides, Masayoshi Soken is directly employed by SE so his position as composer and sound director for ARR makes that completely invalid.

You also make some big assumptions about game design, that music can simply be composed and added into the game with zero expense or effort. It actually takes time and money to program a specific track into the game, to make sure it cues at the right place, that it fades out when needed, and most importantly, is the right leitmotif for the setting or mood. It especially costs money to add a new track into an existing game, as the development team have to make sure it doesn't inadvertently mess up or clash with existing content. And the expenses aren't just for to the composer either - all the programmers, sound technicians, and other development staff that work on the game all have to be paid, adding considerably to the bill.). Any element of game design is a costly process, and music production for the game is just part of it. And it all depends on whether the development budget can allow it.

Yeah I had enough of the battle music.
It seems its all I hear while playing the game...

And why is there no dungeon music?!
Only for 30 seconds or so it plays but then it stops and the ********* battletheme starts playing.

I wonder why even introduce dungeon theme when it gets replaced by battle theme, and you never hear dungeon theme again?
