No incentive to level up fishing

I've been working on getting my rod of the luminary after reaching level 50 fisher, but I suddenly feel like giving up.
There just isn't any reward for catching the big fish in the game, for example I double mooch a legendary gigantic catch after hours of fishing only to through it away!
The fish are not used for crafting so u can\\'t sell it for any kind of Gil, u can\\'t even use it for any aesthetic value and I cant boast about it as I can\\'t display it in any way.
What I\\'m saying is that SE need to provide us fisherman with some incentive to continue fishing like for example
    1. Fish that can be sold for profit, which would mean that they would have to incorporate them into crafting or some other form where people would want to use them
    2. A way in which we can show off our catch like for example a fish tank in the FC house?Or any similar approach
Because at present The profit one can make off fishing is just too low, especially with the trend of undercutting..

Let's see, fishing in the correct areas guarantees peisteskin maps and not a chance at 3-4 maps. That I find very valuable.

While I would much enjoy being able to display my catches somewhere to show off the sheer size of some of the things on my record I disagree with it. While fishing isn't any fantastic generator of Gil compared to Botanist or Miner - or even simply hunting some of the creatures in Eorzea - it does have uses.

In fact, I'm often asked by either Alchemists or Culinarian's (the former may actually be off as oftentimes the Alchemists are also Culinarian's) in my Free Company for particular fish. This isn't even a rare thing so I've begun taking notes on the frequency of what fish I obtain using what baits or lures due to the demand of them.

There are plenty of fish used in crafting and plenty more not. Though, thankfully, the ones required in Provisions for the Grand Company are always (from my experience) the ones that aren't used in crafts.

You are correct, however I feel that all fish should have some sort of value, of varying degree depending n the fish, apart from trading some in for grand company points which is really quite useless when I'm making enough seals in other ways. All items from other disciples of the land are used in some form of crafting, why not the same with fishing?

Y'know I'm not certain if it was a Letter from Yoshida or something else but I definitely recall reading somewhere that Fisher was never intended to be the Gatherer that Botanist or Miner currently are. I feel this stems from FFXI and how that handled the Fishing mechanic that, as far as I know, was far too good in making Gil. I could be wrong on the reasoning but I'm certain on the statement. I apologize for not being able to give you a link to said statement as I'm currently at work and unable to perform an extensive (or not so with luck) for the statement. Perhaps someone else would be willing?

You should check the market boards, as there are definitely fish that are worth money. You might not make half a mil a day doing it, but it's an nice and steady stream of income if you put in the research.

I'd consider hanging on to those legendary fish, too. In FFXI, they eventually added a system where you could "cut open" rare fish for a chance at obtaining valuable items. It's possible that SE may implement such a system in the future for FFXIV, as well.

would be cool if we could get certain fish mounted for sale or to display in our housing.

If I'm not mistaken, one of the live letters talk about the idea of aquariums.

They could also add an option to eat the trash fish for (only) 3% EXP added bonus like some fruits from Botanist (Lemons, apples and and so on) so they'll have at least some use upart of dumping them to NCP for almost zero gill or throwing them right away to not clutter your inventory.
