[Patcher] A few things for SE to consider

Like I said, it's a bit outside the norm to need to open your ports, but there are several reasons you might need to do so. Either way, opening your ports is a way to speed up the DL, like it or not.

Yes you do, but my point was that you shouldnt need to, and we want some news on what changes are going on behind the scenes, and what plans there are for the patcher, and one thing that needs to be changed is the need to open ports, it lowers your security for no reason. Yes we need to for now but we shouldnt need to.

There is a way for them to get around us having to open the ports and solving 2 more problems, by making the patcher a hybrid; meaning providing the patch via http and torrent. That's how Blizzard does it and it works quite fine. That way people who can't use torrents or don't want to open ports will be able to at least leech via http, albeit slower, and there will be less load on SE's servers.

Additionally, they should give us an option to seed after finishing the download, reducing the load on their servers even further.

Remember to open you ports on your routers folks, it helps TONS to speed up your dl speed for the patch.

Just wanted to point something out. While I would never violate the Terms of Service/Use, there's a hypothetical person who did. His patches had taken incrementally longer since the first one. 1.17 had taken about 6 hours.

So he forwarded all his ports. And then called his router company, and they made some adjustments to make his download even faster.

So 1.18 hits, and the guy starts downloading. 2.5 hours later, he's sitting at 16.2% downloaded. :/

So he decides to figure out what this whole "Torrent" thing is about. He looks up some posts on Torrents. He figures out how to do it. He figured out what Torrent-er he wants to use. He downloads uTorrent. He finds the files he needs to download. He starts Torrenting. And the Torrent file downloads in 15 minutes.

Keep in mind that this entire process takes about an hour. And he's left the FFXIV patcher running the entire time. And how far had the patcher managed to get? 16.7%. In 3.5 hours. vs. 15 minutes for uTorrent.

Hypothetically, of course.

My point is that port forwarding apparently helps a lot of people. But it apparently doesn't cure everything that's wrong with the Patcher.

I don't think it's only 22 people who think there is something wrong with the patcher.

Patch 1.20 released and the download speed were meager at best, again. There wasn't anything listed about any patcher changes in the 2.0 documents so I think reviving this one is ok.

I opened my Ports, did absolutely nothing lol.
