    Not a fan of tails.

Galka sounds like a completely different race to the Roegadyn. I get the feeling that Galka are bear-like and more beastly (never played XI), whereas Roes are basically just large humans. It's only really the male nose and their proportions that set them apart.

They really look like the same thing (or at least the same comparison between mithra and miqo'te)... except Galkas had tails. You could not play female Galka in FFXI, so no one knew what the female version looked like... but here is a picture of the male version...

    (Opening cinematic)

(Galka in MNK AF -- in-game)

    (Close up of the face)

(Some image I found on Google images to show you the tail -- I have no idea who these people are.)

    ...

    Compare to:

    (FFXIV cinematic Roegadyn)

    (Another Roegadyn)

iirc, there is no female Galka. They're sort of Unisex and reproduce via Reincarnation or something.

Yeah, I remember that. They are also referred to as the 'male' pronoun despite presumably being unisex... I just didn't want to get into gender politics in this thread. XD

    http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Galka

"They reproduce through a form of reincarnation, but usually have no recollection of their past life. Many English speaking fans believe they are asexual due to a mistranslation in the manual. Interviews with the game's creator have confirmed they are male."

I miss the tails. I actually thought they were kind of ugly but they set the Galkas apart from being big humans. I forget where/when I read it but awhile back someone mentioned that every race in this game looks like a human. You're either a short human (lalafell), big human with a different color skin (roe), human with cat ears, tall human with pointy ears, or just a plain human. The little things that made the races in FFXI varied were taken out-- Tarutaru had the black noses and distinctive ears, Mithra looked like cats because of their noses and face markings which were mostly taken out in XIV, and Galka had their tails. XIV seems to have dumbed everything down and all the races look very similar in my opinion. Not a huge complaint because I think some of them look better, but like I said it's a lot less varied.

I liked the galka tails. I'm kind of sad they are gone too. Also it might help make more of a distinction between Roes and Highlanders.

Roegadyns with a tail would have been nice. Maybe not a behemoth tail, but something like a lions tail.

XI had a bit more effort in those races. The animation was done by hand so that's why the tarutarus look a bit cuter than just the child-size lalas. The equipment was also a lot more custom depending on your race. Galkas tail was part of the pants design but all classes have the same legs. Infamous flat buts of ARR dev response comes to mind.

Anyway you can find some solace int he fact that at least these mo-capped versions look more high def?

What would be feasible within their constraints would be giving bigger spectrum of skin hues. I'd love to play as ARR-galka but I can't watch the grey skintones. Please remove the sheet of desaturation from a part of the color scale so we could see more variety on the fields!
