Actually that post is incorrect.
Belts being removed was NOT a limitation based on the Playstation 3.
The belts were removed because it was limiting the design process for gear, having to compromise every piece of gear to suit belts to go ontop of it and reworking each belt to fit each set of gear was a mammoth and un-nessecary task, which is why newer gear simply has a belt designed ontop of it (if suitable) for example the Foe Strikers Body;

I repeat, this was NOT a Playstation 3 limitations, belts would not impact memory on even a small scale. (But if does help a bit when they're not there)
