You do realize that in saying such, you have acknwoledged that your feedback is to be ignored when it comes to gushing about FFXI right?

Regardless, I did play FFXI from launch until after Abyssea and I have to agree that FFXI is in many ways, not what it's romanticists claim it was. It did have a growing Endgame, though NA members only remember Zilart patch on due to it being Japan Only for its first year (ARR is in its first year, reconstruction from 1.0 reset that clock due to the workload of remaking a game.) The endgame continued to span out as expansions were released. But it was myred with similar game-play suppression like heavy gil costs for Dynamis entry, Lockout on repeat Dynamis entry - and absolutely abysmal drop-rates. Not to mention story progression lockouts (JP Midnight!)

They were also very slow to look at issues and patch them, where as here we've already seen efforts to correct some of the issues, especially concerning party balance, that were popping up.

I loved FFXI, for what it was, a deeply flawed game with a close community and a sense of wonder to it. But it in no means was glory and sunshine. It was dirty, grindy, plagued with issues from rampant elitism to RMT and Third Party Tool domination.

But in many ways it was also beautiful.

    Just, not worth repeating.

I'll try FFXI one of these days just to say I played it, but until then, it just looks like a bunch of menus with some open world wandering. I'm sure its more than that though.

@Ryios Very true. There's a happy medium to be reached though, but I've yet to see it accomplished.

Yeah I realize that. I'm fine with being ignored if everyone else is to. Don't get me wrong though, I'm not saying player feedback is worthless, not at all. But a forum is not the appropriate place to collect it. It should be in game, with active players, via a feedback/survey system.

IMO, the Genera cannot reach a happy medium, because honestly, the playerbase of the genre is tired of compromising. You very much see it in the back and forth arguments that come on virtually every thread here in General.

People want to find an MMO that fits them specifically, and appeals to their specific style of game-play. And honestly I'm beginning to feel that's the way MMOs are going to survive in the wake of console and multiplayer games becoming more and more like MMOs in general.

I personally am good with the situation I am in for FFXIV. I enjoy it, I'm happy with the direction it is going, I am anxious for more even while I'm pushing to catch up with what's out. (Three characters and being a roleplayer does a lot to stall you out. )

Then you and I are in complete agreement that far. Live data is so much more accurate than forum feedback, which lends itself to hyperbole and a minority voice too often than not.

I'd love if the forums were like they were in the old days, less about feedback, more about community interaction.

To me having all the classes on one character is frustrating and it counter's the system. Sweet I have a tank and a dps to 50!!!. Oh wait, I can only run BCB on one of them.... So pretty much, since I have a tank, I'll never get to DPS anything, EVER.

Can't tell you how many times my FC wants to do something so I join on my blm, then we sit there looking for a tank for 2 hours and it's only a matter of time before one of them goes "dude... Just tank, your tank is geared and your good." And I end up sucking one up so that 7 other people can have a good time and me being miserable.

Tanking Titan HM 28374893749873489398327498732 times get's old.
Solution? Shouldn't have leveled a tank! xD

Why is that funny Rift is 4 on the chart you posted out of all those games Rift is 4 how is that fail or lol. Rift did very well for a Sub model
and its still doing well as a f2p.

What you stated makes 0 sense if they catered to the casual players which were the majority but the hard core left which was the minority then how is the the reason for the loss of half its players if they catered to the majority and not the vocal minority.. Anyway rift had a huge loss of subs for a few reasons broken raids, having to run a new spec every month because of constant re balancing of jobs and attention span. Rift have a very good run.

I didn't have a topic in mind for the thread, I just can't stand eternal doom n gloomers that do nothing but complain about enjoyable stuff.

The game has its flaws, but it has many great qualities too. So many that I pay for my sub 3 months at a time, something I've never done in an MMO before.

This is why I love the FF MMOs more than other MMOs. I love the fact that you can do anything you want on any character, and if you want to switch, you don't have to do everything all over again on another character.

I love this game. While I have a couple of gripes I am completely enthralled

There are a lot of complaints on these forums, hell I've even complained about a few things, but like someone else said it's only because I love the game and want to see it improve. Which I believe there is sooooo much room for. I think in the review IGN gave the game, he said that despite this game's flaws he believed that anything was possible after the turn around from 1.0.

Granted there are a few things that 1.0 did right and that I miss, they have completely turned this game around and in my opinion it can only get better.

I'm sure plenty more zones will be added, making the world larger. If you explore the world you will see that much content is not in the game yet. We have only seen the base of the Crystal Tower, I'm sure we will get more of the Crystal Tower with much more difficult content that might yield higher level items. They've already added a lot into the game with patch 2.1, imagine what future patches and better yet expansions will bring. This game was incredibly polished and a GREAT game at launch with lots of content, give it time and it could evolve to be one of the best mmos ever.

They just think they want it. Just check this board here. Their are very casual suggestions with many people supporting it that would not be a good thing for any game.

I think player input should be really minimum. Instead the dev team should contact a really good psychiatrist that tell them what people really want in the long run.
