I do want to understand. I guess I'm just missing something?
If RS was ready in 10 sec (btw /recast is awesome figured that out like a week ago and am still super happy with it :P) and I was going to contagion I would just do what I said I did in the VERY beginning (change ruda to obey, cast my dots, change ruda back to Sic). Obey to sic (and vice versa) does not have a direct impact on the pet internal timers vs other tactics like button mashing or (what I just learned a few moments ago) guard->steady.

How does this not yield the exact result?

Sic is a DPS loss. That is how it does not yield the exact same result. Yes, you can keep it on Sic, change it to Obey (with or without Steady) and manually fire off Contagion. But it doesn't change the fact that Sic is a flat out DPS loss. There is no reason, ever, to keep Garuda on Sic. Unless of course, manually pressing 1-5 buttons to 'micro' Garuda every minute is simply too much to handle.

Well if you really want to test this out once and for all, I noticed that we're on the same server and I'm a main SMN with a plethora of gear. If you'd like, i get home from work at about 5:30pm PST, and we could match iLVL and test it out on striking dummies as a base test of ideal conditions.

I can confirm at 10000000% that Garuda casts contagion even though there are no dots (which is dumb btw, but IDC since I don't let her on sic)

Unfortunately since it took a while before we got started, I was in the middle of doing primal EX runs for the week so I only had a chance to do 1 round. We spent 3 minutes attacking the Striking Dummy at Summerford Farms. Here's ACT's parse data:

the DPS #'s decreased over time, but at time of finishing it was final tally: 101 (aureus), 80 (soko), 37 (garuda) or: 138 v 80. (58%) in SMN v. SCH. Sol matched his ilevel as close as possible.

So he did 138 dps as SMN, and you did 80 dps as SCH?

Sol Aureus and I got around to our next round of testing:
using similar rotations, Sols ACN was at 182(DPS), his SMN did 207 (DPS) (including pet) at roughly ilevel 60 (when we were doing our tests we had some gear conflicts so we went without helm to best match up both stats).
Then for giggles, he threw on his il90 gear and showed me max potential.

I will resign both SCH and ACN vs SMN debates for myself. SCH -> smn is pretty close, but the extra 40-60 dps from the pet pushes it over. ACN is much closer but still a little bit off. Maybe it's the rotation, I dunno. for now, I think I've looked into it enough to satisfy my curiosity.

Interesting note, in his full il90 gear Sol's garuda peaked at 94DPS after spur+rouse was used.

The damage on a dummy may bis similar if you exclude SMN pet but it doesn't matter at all because the lack of Accuracy gear for SCH would make their DPS worth nothing in content that actually matters.
