    part of the damn problem is the fact that they basically hand you a 50. My friends started playing (both with full time jobs) and they both hit cap in a week and a half. They didnt rush, they did fates, quests dungeons..ect. yet they got their so quick. Now on our final week of our sub and we have fricken relics (because they are jokes in this game) and the only thing holding us back from being better geared are the constant lock outs. They developed the game to make it super quick to cap, knowing full well there was next to nothing there and that half the players from 1.0 had multi 50's. "How do we get them to stick around, we know they will eat through the content in couple weeks?" "throw weekly timers on everything! that will make them HAVE to stick around".

    They knew the game needed a while to put in a good amount of endgame that would satisfy the kind of people who played games more than a few hours a week, yet they make it so you can casually hit cap in a couple weeks. Thats usually the issue with MMOs post WoW, they are too damn easy/accessible and they make it a joke to hit "end game" when they know full well they dont have much to offer....and they sit there stunned when everyone quits after a few months and they are forced to go F2P. There is a reason older MMO's are STILL up with monthly fees...they didnt treat us all like the lowest common denominator and make everything easy and quick.

    and there in lies another issue, if they did remove the cap, half the server would have the best gear on all their jobs and have quit literally "beat the game" in a month or 2. The game being designed the WoW style it was in the first place was the major issue. Some days i watch old 1.2x videos and get sad that there was a good game starting there (the combat and endgame/more open world stuff) being built that just needed a few modern touches and a new world/servers and it would have been something i would latched onto for a long time.

    I play all jobs, with 6 in i70+ and relics, i90 on my main which is war. You don't really get left behind if you play your cards right.
    edit: I'd gear your pld first in myth and relic, the rest in DL/primal weps until you feel you can sacrifice some myth for em or farm other high end content for i80/90 gear.

    Then there is our answer. Make Coil like CT. One item per week. Still have gear progression, but not able to obtain full myth set in a week.

    How did you folks survive in previous MMOs?

    The majority of previous generation MMOs had raid lockout timers and you also had to deal with RNG while playing with 20-30 people all looking for similar drops.

    If anything, you can make more guaranteed progress in this game than you can in the vast majority of prior MMOs. Not only that, but now that EX Primals are out you have more options for being able to gear up your characters as well with multiple i90 items.

    I do agree that a full week lockout is a bit much, but when you consider that the Coil lockout is for an eight man group it kind of makes sense. You're that much more likely to get an upgrade that week as opposed to in a previous MMO's full raid with a three day lockout.

    It's a balancing act and obviously the developers aren't going to be able to satisfy everyone while ensuring the longevity of their game.

    Those lockouts have nothing to do with legacy players and entirely with pacing of the end-game so that people don't just cap at each 2.x patch and then leave for a couple of months. Every MMO has this to some effect or another.
