That would make no sense considering SE had no problems making unique models for specific encounters in XI lol. Egis rarely resemble the actual primal so it wouldn't have spoiled anything.You guys realize there are placeholder graphics from time-to-time... I bet part of the reason the Belias-egi appears like dark Ifrit has more to do with the idea that they didn't want to yet reveal how Belias would 'later' appear in the game... and it were there more to act as a subtle teaser for those who would catch it.
To be honest Tristan used Belias, due to ancient wisdom from summoners of old. Who to say they didn't perfect summoning of primals, and also you gotta take in the account of ascian influences. Also If im not mistaken you have to bathe in the aether of the primal, to be able to summon it.

I think with time, we'll see all the Ivalice esper's appear, whether a passing reference or as an actual being we see/fight. Zodiark is already referenced and the Ascians all share the names of the Scions of Light that mirrored XII's Espers which were the Scions of Dark.
