I am just happy for a new unique experience....

Let's, at the very least, give Yoshi's vision a chance...
We criticize the games lack of vision, and then fight against any semblance of direction that the developers want to add....

Saying what you'd like to see is fine... but we haven't even seen the first battle change and people are already crushing the system
Not one of us has tried out any jobs, or auto-attack or materia....

Open your mind to unique experience

How many games have we played where you were the same class (with the same weapon) for the entire game?
Its so much easier to balance that type of game then a game where you can do it all and hybrid everything....
So your favorite class might not have the weapon you like....
Well I want a space man with a ray gun and thats not happening either.... A game has to have limits or else it would never be released.... Limits define the game...
You can't be Master Chief or Sonic the Hedgehog in Eorzea... and that doesn't bother any of us... why? Because you weren't expecting Master Chief or Sonic
You see what happens? When you want a thief to have a dagger or a blue mage to have a scimitar so badly that you can taste it... then you set your self up for disappoint me... And no, the devs didn't disappoint you, you disappointed yourself

If you're still here, that means you want to see how SE handles this, what they can come up with because they've managed to capture greatness in past games...
So let's see how it turns out... SE isn't Verizon... you're not locked into a 2 year contract... so relax and let's enjoy the ride together...
Enjoy a brand new Final Fantasy with brand new mechanics and gameplay....

on a side note... Many classes/jobs had odd weapon combinations in the numbered titles....
Blue mages might have used Scimitars in FFXI... but they used polearms in X and whips in VIII and materia in VII
I agree completely with this. Seeing how some of us regained a bit of hope for the future of this game with the last letter from the producer, noticing a glimpse of Yoshida's Vision for this game, I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. I am not expecting them to change the system to be able to use different weapons, I am expecting them to make it work as it is. If they change it to use different weapons per class, then great news too.

I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.

dont know if i said this already, but the fact they are looking at some multi combo required jobs implies not all jobs will be linked to weapons. or that some jobs will have multiple options.

after all if red mage required conjurer and thaum, then it would have to have access to the conjurer or thaum weapon, or it would have to be a new class with all new leveling.
Another possibility is to have it unlocked by having two classes, but locked to one, but that wouldnt make too much sense really.
Of course this still means some jobs will only have one weapon probably, but not all.

I've wondered how that would work... would 1 class be the main and the other the sub so the job would take the weapon of the main???? Kind of like subcrafts in certain recipes

Making examples using single player Final Fantasy installments is pretty bad. Their job, weapon, equipment, what they eat, what spells they cast is unique to the character in that storyline. Because there are several instances of some character using a weapon, but looked like a job, yet casted this spell. That doesn't mean FFXIV should include all of these instances. They will develop the jobs unique to FFXIV while keeping it Final Fantasy. Like it or not.

Freya is a Dragon knight aka Dragoon as stated in the game, there are red mage npcs wandering around lindblum or alexandria(i think) in IX they look nothing like her though i can understand the mistake. They just chose to make her get up pink to make her look more feminine, her trance form returns to the traditional dragoon colours. Not that im against the redmage lancer combo.... =p

Even though Freya might have used some spells Blue mages used in the past, She was specifically a Dragoon. The game already had a blue mage, Quina. And the characteristic all blue mages share is that they steal or copy or eat their foes to use their spells. Freya learned all her skills normally, while Quina had to eat them to learn and use them. So Freya was not like a Blue at all.
