Anyone else kinda hope for a future "Mystic Quest" reference? :P

I'm not ashamed to admit it; I love Mystic Quest! For one, the music is fantastic, and secondly.... Well, I guess that's about it.

Honestly, I don't think it's nearly as bad as people make it out to be, as it was a great introduction to the old-school RPG genre, without being super time-consuming. Being a kid at the time, it was exactly the kind of RPG I needed, inspiring me to later play the "real" Final Fantasy games.

I would be so completely on-board with Benjamen getting revived in FFXIV, headlining some new event. Whether he's the lovable idiot who constantly shrugs at everything, or reborn as a complete badass wielding Excalibur, I'd love to see him make an appearance, if anyone could put a bug in the Japan team's ear?

Also; there's kind of a running joke in certain communities that Benjamen is actually a young Gilgamesh, with Mystic Quest being his first experience collecting other peoples' weapons, which would be worth a joke worth referencing :P

Eww, FF Mystic Quest! BURN IT! j/k!

Actually, I think there is at least one FFMQ reference in ARR already (even if it might not be in context) - a Coerthas quest involves retrieving a lost lamb called Benjamin, although it might not necessarily be a literal FFMQ reference, when I saw the lamb's name I immediately thought of FFMQ.

I would love to see the first dungeon (Bone Dragon's Lair or something like that?) appear in FFXIV.

Hah, that would be pretty sweet, Urthdigger! Although, not sure if an entire dungeon would be overkill or not? Granted, it would make for a pretty awesome-looking dungeon at that, plus between Excalibur, and some other weapons (Dragon's Claw for Pugs and Monks?), I could see that being fun. And, of course, the music!!!

For me, I think it would be cool just getting a real reference, even if it's just making fun of my beloved game :P

It wouldn't be overkill, as Crystal Tower is more or less directly taken from FF3. It's been a long time since I played, but what was the tower called in MQ? I remember the one from FF4, I think, was Babel?

"Focus Tower" was the location in Mystic Quest. I think Urthdigger's right, though; the Sand Temple/Bone Dungeon would probably be the most distinctive of the bunch. Granted, I *LOVE* the music in the Lava Dome, but I don't know that it would be quite as visually interesting. Maybe the Hill of Destiny, though, with a Behemoth boss at the end?

Either way, I'm just more about aesthetic rewards, I suppose. I figure, when you're dealing with stuff like that, it has kind of an indefinite life-span, whereas dungeons themselves tend to eventually become obsolete in MMO's. Considering Mystic Quest is basically the black sheep of the series (possibly what they were going for when they named that lost lamb Benjamin?), I'm not getting my hopes too high. Still, it's cool to think about, and who knows; maybe one day they'll consider doing something? :P

Well, there's Focus Tower which acts as a hub, and a full fledged dungeon in Pazuzu's Tower.

I'd be up for this too.

As the monster/boss' health drops, they should start showing signs of wear and tear. Ie. The rex skeleton boss breaks apart bit by bit as you weaken him, the ice golem starts to melt, etc. For me that was one of the most defining features of FFMQ
