Dont you just feel bad for Nero?

back when I did praetorium, i just skipped the battle due to new players going "skip pls" and all that so I didnt know of Nero till yesterdday

So all this time, he was being unnoticed as a engineer due to Cid being a protege, and even when he defected, he got more famous and Nero just turned a shadow.

Course, it doesnt justify not one bit of his actions but its a shame when you work so hard for recognition and you get not a scrap.

I would -definitely- buy a Nero plushie, and hug it, and tell it I know how brilliant it's always been, don't worry.

(Then again, I'm a known Garlean sympathiser. Except for Livia, she's creepy and awful. D

I don't. He should have taken pride in his work and not in sucking in the glory and all. He's an engineer.

He doesn't mind us conducting trials so close to his bazaar, so long as he's properly compensated... Yes, Portus, we pay him in sorcery-blasted bird flesh. - Cocobygo

I actually liked him and did sympathize with him a bit, but then his resentment and jealousy just blew away any sympathy I had for him. The guy is just a jealous, narcissistic technophile who couldn't stand to see Cid (who was clearly the better engineer) get all the glory. How he acts in the Praetorium, speaking to Cid with obvious envy and contempt, shows just why even Gaius passes him over for promotion.

I can understand feeling frustrated by being overshadowed by someone, but at the same time, Cid was a BRILLIANT engineer. It wasn't a case of someone mediocre getting recognition just because of a family name, Cid actually was just that good, his family name just served to elevate his already high status gotten through hard work and natural brilliance. Nero shouldn't have focused on trying to trump Cid, he should have just tried to prove his own merit through his own deeds, regardless of how much recognition Cid had in the past or present. Rivalry or aspiration are okay, but at some point you have to stop focusing on how much better someone is and how much you hate them for it, and just focus on making yourself the best you can be. So Nero has little of my sympathy.

Then again I hate Garleans, especially Livia for what she did to the Waking Sands. So maybe I'm a bit biased.

As a Garlean sympathizer, I understand Nero's frustrations. While he does take it entirely way too far, I'm not surprised if he's been living with that his entire life. As for Cid being "that brilliant", he really isn't when compared to Nero. The two are easily equally brilliant and Nero is getting the short end of the stick. When Ultima Weapon makes it's first appearance, you can talk to Cid afterward and the "brilliant" engineer is utterly amazed at how Nero was able to modify it with Magitek. Nero could easily lead Garlemald into a technological revolution using Allagan tech, something Cid doesn't understand so well. Though thanks to Cid's last name, no one gives him the credit he deserves.

I think of Cid as Thomas Edison and Nero is Nikola Tesla.

Thomas Edison was a bit of a thief though, so I wouldn't put Cid on that comparision...

Also unlike Nero, Cid only wanted to use his skills and knowledge for peaceful purposes, and the betterment of all in Eorzea (even Gaius acknowledges this) - whereas Nero is only hellbent on fueling his own petty jealousies and insecurities by furthering his ruthless nation's dreams of conquest, by using his knowledge for making weapons of war and destruction, and only ensuring it stays in Garlean hands. It's not hard to see who is the better engineer here just on this alone.

Thomas Edison was quite the douche... Nikola Tesla was a troubled, brilliant man.
