Not misconstrued at all, go to the forum top and you will see the Dev post saying this, from the beginning they never intended for crafting to impact the game to a great degree. The post is about a week old.Yoshi did say that crafted great will not be better than raid gear. His reasoning is because he does not want people to stick to created gear in lieu of dungeon running.
However, I believe this point was misconstrued by many. No one gear set is BiS. To get BiS, you need a mix of Allagan, Myth, and XM gear. I think eventually a few crafting pieces will end up as BiS.

See that's the beauty of the system I asked/questioned. If they were to implement an Abjuration system it would be no different from coils (or at least what I asked for). When you kill a boss in CoB you get two pieces of gear 100% but you still have to deal with RNG on what the pieces you get are. So it would be Endgame Content kill ??? boss get two pieces (how many depends on content) of Abjurations 100% which pieces based on RNG buy a Cursed item (where Crafting/ Gathering come into play) take it to a NPC and have it uncursed.
So in short you will never ever have to deal with a drop rate below 100%. I think that's why some of the people don't like it cause it took a long time in FFXI to get some. The only thing it will just take you time to get the cursed item. In the long run its no different than CoB Allagan you still have to deal with RNG. But I figured it would work great in FFXIV because it incorporates lockouts which SE are huge fans of.
So basically they've just said that the only crafts worth leveling are alchemy and cooking. Those two are the only crafts that produce endgame needed items. As for furniture, my guild has ~6 people who are lvl 50 in every craft with top melded crafting gear. I don't need to buy any furniture for my house. If they have the mats they make it for free otherwise I have to get the mats. So on legacy servers for sure there will be no furniture market.
Anyway that's a load off my mind. Off to power level alchemy and cooking.
