Philo mats have been holding steady around 5k. I would think if you could pick them up for that price or lower that you'd be able to make a return on your money.

holy crap really? vanya is worth like 50k on high pop servers.

It's more about the number of level 50 crafters, legacy worlds naturally have far more of those than any non-legacy server regardless of the total server population

You actually can mail to youself, you just need to friend list your self, and if you alt + f4 out of a dungeon and log in your alt, you can do just that.

People said they patched it, but I've heard you can still do this and they patched a different method.

I SUPPOSE hoarding materia will be my safest bet, incidentally I was a massive materia hoarder in 1.2x so it's natural to me :P indulge the insanity eh?!

shards, crystals and clusters always sell and you can take lots with you, but I'm not sure how much of a dent that will make in your gil.

I would say Materia, stacks of raid food, shards, and some mats

Buy a diverse collection of T4 materia; it's the most liquid option available that would also let you resell at reasonable prices in a fairly timely fashion.
