    Why did SE get rid of the random chests as drops from open world mobs ?

    I am curious as to why SE decided to drop the whole random loot off mobs in the open world, especially as FFXI has a random drop from mobs AND 2 types of chests that can also drop, hell the whole loot the chest mechanic and UI is already in the game as is the chest assets... so why ditch the whole loot from mobs ?

    I am not saying bring back the whole work out the combination key to unlock mini game, or even locked chests but having random chests drop off mobs while you are fighting in the the open world would spice up the open world a bit as you level... you could possibly pick up new gear, or stuff to sell on the market, or potions or food.

    Does anyone really hate the idea of looting in the open world, checking the corpses or open the chests the mobs drop in MMO's ?

    FFXIV never had random chest drops like that to get rid of. As for XI, you realize that feature was added years later, right? Like, after several expansions type of later.


    Between treasure hunting, random chests during leves, those in dungeons and quest rewards do we really need something else to create a glut of armor and crafting materials?

    Well the Treasure Hunts , Leve chests and Dungeon chests are not really that random (the Leve chests may be, but I have never gotten a single useful item from one) ... and are triggered effects rather than something that happened while you were fighting mobs.

    It would spice up the open world because at the moment there is no reason to go after mobs except for a specific reason such as logs or quests, or craft items... it is literally more trouble than worth to kill off random mobs than to climb on a mount and ride off to the next location on the map.

    And there would be no reason to go after mobs if they added open world chests, either. People would just run up, open them and then run away, leashing the mobs.

    He's asking for monsters to drop treasure chests, not for them to be just lying around in random places.

    Uhh they're probably waiting to add it in the future.

    In 1.0 mobs did randomly and occasionally drop chests, I remember it. It may have to do with the fact that battles in 1.0 were a bit tougher.
